Korea-Czech Nuclear Energy Alliance: A Century-Long Commitment
South Korea and the Czech Republic have formalized a strategic partnership in nuclear energy, adopting a joint action plan and numerous agreements aimed at fostering a century-long alliance.
The collaboration was solidified during South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol's three-day official visit to Prague, where discussions centered on expanding cooperation across various sectors.
This alliance comes as the Czech government selected a South Korean consortium as the preferred partner to construct two new nuclear units at its Dukovany nuclear power plant. While the project faces potential complications due to intellectual property claims by U.S. firm Westinghouse, both South Korea and the U.S. are working to resolve the dispute and forge a win-win partnership.
With 56 Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) signed during President Yoon's visit, the two countries aim to boost bilateral trade, investment, and collaboration across diverse industries. This alliance represents a significant step towards strengthening energy security and promoting technological innovation in both nations.
The strategic partnership between South Korea and the Czech Republic extends beyond nuclear energy, encompassing trade, investment, and various industrial sectors. Both nations are committed to fostering long-term growth and innovation through this comprehensive alliance.
