Step 1: Opening Your Photo
First, open the Snapseed app on your smartphone.
Tap anywhere on the screen to open a photo from your gallery. Select the image you want to edit. It is important to choose a photo where the t-shirt is clearly visible and well-lit for best results. This will facilitate a more precise color change.
Step 2: Accessing the Curves Tool
Once your photo is open, navigate to the 'Tools' section.
Scroll through the options and select 'Curves'. The Curves tool allows you to adjust the tonal range and color balance of your image. Understanding how to use this tool is crucial for achieving the desired color change.
Step 3: Selecting a Color Channel
Within the Curves tool, you'll see a graph with a diagonal line.
Tap the 'Channel' icon at the bottom of the screen. A menu will appear, offering options like RGB, Red, Green, and Blue. Selecting a specific color channel lets you target that particular color range for modification, which is vital when attempting to alter a t-shirt's color without affecting other parts of the image. For a blue t-shirt, start with the blue channel.
Step 4: Adjusting the Curve
After selecting a color Channel, you can manipulate the curve by dragging the points on the graph.
Dragging a point upwards will increase the intensity of that color, while dragging it downwards will decrease it. Experiment with different adjustments to see how they affect the color of the t-shirt. For example, dragging down on the blue channel will introduce yellow tones, changing a blue t-shirt to yellow or other shades depending on the extent of the adjustment. This is where precision and patience are key. Start with small adjustments and observe the changes before making further modifications.
Step 5: Fine-Tuning with the Brush Tool
Once you’ve made initial adjustments with the Curves tool, tap the 'Apply' button.
To refine the color application, use the Brush tool. Go back to the 'Tools' menu and select 'View Edits'. Then, select 'Curves' followed by the brush icon. This allows you to selectively apply or remove the color changes you made with the Curves tool. Using the Brush tool effectively means understanding its functionalities. You can increase or decrease the percentage to apply subtle edits or bold changes. For instance, if the color has bled onto the skin, decrease the percentage to 0% and brush over the skin to restore its original color. To restore the original color, decrease the percentage to 0% and brush over any areas where the color change shouldn't be applied. To restore the edit, increase the percentage to 100% and brush over specific areas. This ensures that only the t-shirt's color is Altered. It’s essential to brush neatly, adjusting the percentage for precision.
Step 6: Changing to Other Colors
After achieving the initial color change, you can easily experiment with other colors.
Go back to the Curves tool via 'View Edits' and adjust the Red and Green channels to transform the t-shirt to various shades. For example, by decreasing the green channel, you can achieve a pink hue. Adjusting the red channel can create sky blue or vibrant red tones. This flexibility makes Snapseed an excellent tool for quick color variations. Here’s how to get other colors: For sky blue: Use a red channel curve. For pink color: Green channel curve. For red: Down blue channel & Green channel curve. For blue: Down Red & Green Channel curve.
Step 7: Saving Your Edited Photo
After perfecting the color change, it’s time to save your work. Tap the 'Export' button. Choose your desired export option, such as 'Save' to overwrite the original file or 'Export' to create a copy. Be aware that saving over the original photo will permanently alter it. Exporting ensures that your original photo remains untouched. The selected JPEG quality affects the file size and image resolution, so choose a balance that suits your needs.
