Drawing Together Like-Minded Individuals
The primary motivation behind forming a computational theology group Stems from the desire to unite individuals with diverse technical expertise and a shared interest in the Catholic faith.
This interdisciplinary approach aims to foster collaboration between professionals in fields such as computer science, art (all mediums), physics, engineering, chemistry, psychology, biology, medicine, and social science. By bringing together this varied expertise, the group seeks to enable what is described as 'metaphysical engineering.'
The goal is to explore how these fields can collectively contribute to solutions for the challenges facing the Church and propagate the Catholic faith in a modern context. Uniting these skill sets will help develop new strategies and approaches to share and expand the Catholic faith.
Encouraging Higher Education for Catholics
Another pivotal motivation involves promoting higher education, particularly doctoral studies, among Catholics.
There exists a sentiment within some Catholic circles that discourages pursuit of advanced degrees, this Notion is challenged. Given the current state of the world and the accelerating pace of technological change, it's argued that Catholics with technical expertise are increasingly essential. These experts can contribute meaningfully to the development and ethical considerations surrounding emerging technologies, ensuring that Catholic perspectives are represented in these critical conversations.
This push for education and expertise is not merely for professional advancement but to also equip Catholics with the tools and knowledge necessary to inspire students, generate solutions to help the Church, and bring these ideas to fruition. This collaborative effort makes more possible.
