Embarking on a Cosplay Journey
Lostlillith kicks off a new series reviewing cosplays from different companies. Her goal is to share her experiences as a relatively novice cosplayer, offering insights into the process of purchasing and evaluating costumes. She's familiar with garment making, having attended a year of fashion school, giving her a unique perspective on textiles and construction. This particular review focuses on a Robin cosplay from EZCosplay, a company she's previously purchased from.
EZCosplay is an online retailer that caters to a range of cosplayers, from beginners to seasoned professionals. Finding a reliable source for costumes is crucial, especially when starting out. Lillith aims to share her discoveries – the good, the bad, and the potentially ill-fitting!
She wants to branch out into more Star Rail and Genshin Impact cosplays since the character designs speak to her. She reflects on a previous Kafka cosplay, feeling that the character didn't quite suit her. Here's hoping Robin is a better match!
Unboxing the Robin Cosplay from EZCosplay
The moment of truth! Lostlillith retrieves an orange package, hoping to find the shoes, costume, accessories, wings, and wig all in one place. She expresses surprise at the Package's size, considering the number of components expected inside.
As she begins to open the box, she admits to the measurements not fitting too great. As she unpacks everything and lays it out, the shoes look promising. Then its shown a packaged costume. The wig is also separately sealed.
Lostlillith’s experience at EZCosplay seems promising as she displays what accessories are available.
Assessing the Quality of the EZCosplay Costume
When assessing the quality of a cosplay, several factors come into play. Lostlillith focuses on how the material feels: does it Resemble real clothing, or is it obviously costume-grade? She also considers construction.
Is the costume easy to put on, and does it feel Durable enough to withstand a convention or photoshoot? Her key benchmarks:
- Material Feel: Assessing whether it feels cheap and costume-like or closer to normal clothes,
- Ease of Wear: Ease to put on and take off
- Durability: Will it break apart after a convention or photoshoot?
She then mentions she got a size small even though her measurements were slightly in between sizes, but decided the fit was more important than going the smaller size.
Evaluating the Fit of the Robin Costume
Fit is paramount in cosplay. The costume should flatter the wearer's body and allow for comfortable movement. Lostlillith checks whether the EZCosplay costume fits properly, noting whether it falls off or feels restrictive. Comfort is key for a successful cosplay experience.
Lostlillith states that the small sizing does run big on her so she hopes she can fix this. She also mentions that a lot of past cosplays she has ordered had similar fit issues due to sizing inconsistencies.
Judging the Accuracy: Capturing the Character's Essence
Accuracy is critical to a convincing cosplay. How well does the costume replicate the original character's design?
Lostlillith scrutinizes the EZCosplay costume, ensuring it matches Robin's key features. Are all the essential elements Present, and do they resemble the character's appearance? Is this costume a cheap knockoff or accurate cosplay to Robin's design? She is very big about character accurate and mentions any potential issues.
Sizing Issue
As Lostlillith begins to try on the outfit, she says that there is too much room to feel comfortable and too big that it’s falling off. She says this is especially concerning considering it’s a strapless outfit.
She continues to show everything.
The next thing she decides to show off is the wigs. She’s curious how the bun and actual headpiece are structured. The headpiece will make sure its all tied together. The wig she says did come with a wig cap that contains a weaving cap.
After putting everything on, she shows in a mirror that the dress is very big on her and is pinning the outfit. She hopes to do some alteration so that it fits better but she will show us her current situation.
Crafting Cosplay
This section includes footage of her going to craft this dress. She explains how the pieces are sewn and that one of her concerns with the quality that its seamless and not easy to pull off. She then explains that the skirt has pleats that come off. The pleats make the design come full circle. She puts pins that come all the way around, with the exception of it making space.
After this adjustment the video cuts into an exterior shot of a house before cutting to our youtuber again with the full costume. Her hair has been done and her make up is in place.
She says one of the concerning parts is that the shoulder pieces are tighter than expected
