Early Life and Education
Sriram Krishnan's story begins in Chennai, India, where he was born into a Tamil middle-class family
. His early fascination with technology led him to convince his father to purchase a computer, even without internet access. This early adoption allowed him to teach himself coding using books. His academic pursuits culminated in an engineering degree from Anna University, setting the stage for his move to the United States in 2007. Engineering was a classic choice for ambitious Indian students during that time. If you weren't pursuing engineering, you weren't considered ambitious in the late 80s, and 90s for Indian families.
Krishnan's move to the U.S. marked the beginning of his ascent in the tech world. He embodied the dreams of many aspiring engineers from India, seeking to make a significant impact on the global stage. Fast forward a few years and we now have Sriram serving as Senior Policy Advisor for Artificial Intelligence at the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy. Working closely with David Sacks, Sriram will focus on ensuring continued American leadership in A.I., and help Shape and coordinate A.I. policy across Government, including working with the President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology. Sriram started his career at Microsoft as a founding member of Windows Azure.
