To turn off AI-generated results (AI Overviews) in Google Search, there are a few workarounds you can try since Google doesn't provide a direct option to disable this feature:
-
Use the "Web" tab:
- Perform your search
- Click on "More" at the top of the results page
- Select "Web" to see traditional search results without AI Overviews
-
Modify your browser's search engine settings:
- For Chrome on desktop:
- Go to Settings > Search engine > Manage search engines and site search
- Click "Add" next to "Site search"
- Add a name and shortcut, then paste this URL: {google:baseURL}search?q=%s&udm=14
- Set it as the default search engine
- For Chrome on desktop:
-
Use browser extensions:
- Install uBlock Origin and add the filter: google.com##.GcKpu
- Try the "Hide Google AI Overviews" extension for Chrome
-
Use a different browser:
- Some users report not seeing AI Overviews when using browsers like Safari or Firefox
-
For mobile devices:
- On Android, you can add a custom search engine in Chrome by searching for anything, tapping the three dots menu, going to Settings > Search Engine, and selecting "Google Web"
- For Firefox on mobile, you can add a custom search engine with the URL: google.com/search?udm=14&q=%s
Keep in mind that these are workarounds and may not completely eliminate AI Overviews in all cases. Google has not provided an official way to opt out of this feature.
