Introduction

Hello everyone, Rabid here, and today I am excited to share with you the results of our RTM Raptorium test using the Ryzen 3900x CPU. If you are new to the Channel, make sure to hit that subscribe button and the thumbs up button, and don't forget to enable the Bell notification to stay updated on future videos. In this article, I will explain my testing methodology and share the best settings for mining Raptorium with the Ryzen 3900x. So, let's dive in!

What is Raptorium Mining?

Raptorium is one of the most profitable coins to mine with CPUs at the moment. It utilizes the Ghost Rider algorithm, which consists of multiple mini algorithms. Similar to how Ravencoin works with Kapow, Raptorium constantly switches between these mini algorithms, resulting in different power consumption and hash rates. In this test, we aimed to determine the performance of the Ryzen 3900x on Raptorium and find the optimal settings for mining.

Testing Methodology

To conduct the test, I ran the Ryzen 3900x with various settings for 24 hours each. I recorded the power consumption, hash rates, and mining results for each setting. This process took a couple of weeks to complete due to the number of settings tested. By averaging the power consumption and hash rate for each setting, I was able to provide you with accurate information regarding the performance of the CPU on Raptorium.

Power Consumption and Hash Rates

Let's now take a look at the results of our testing. In the graph, the blue bar represents the highest power consumption, while the orange bars indicate different settings with lower power consumption. At fully tuned settings, we achieved a power consumption of 167 watts, which is the same setting used to push over 15,000 hashes on Monero XMR with the Ryzen 9 3900x. Other settings include 3.6 gigahertz with two sticks of CL 14 RAM at 112 watts, CL 14 stock without XMP profile at 97 watts, and CL 16 with two sticks at 96.5 watts. The power consumption further decreases with CL 16 and one stick of RAM at 84.5 watts and CL 14 with one stick at 83 watts.

Next, let's analyze the hash rates. The highest hash rate we achieved was at fully maxed settings, reaching 3.29 kilohash. Following that, with our dram calculator settings, we obtained a hash rate of 2.77 kilohash. With CL 14 stock settings, the hash rate was 2.68 kilohash, while CL 16 with two sticks delivered a hash rate of 2.37 kilohash. CL 14 with one stick reached a hash rate of 2.27 kilohash, and CL 16 with one stick yielded 2.23 kilohash.

Overclocking the Ryzen 3900x

Contrary to expectations, overclocking the CPU did not prove to be efficient for Raptorium mining, as seen in the hash-to-watt ratio Chart. The top-performing settings were CL 14 stock without overclocking and CL 14 with one stick, both delivering high hash-to-watt ratios of 27.62 and 27.34, respectively. On the other HAND, overclocked settings resulted in lower ratios, with the least efficient being overclocked CPU and RAM at a ratio of 19.7. Therefore, it is advisable to stick with the same mining settings used for other CPU mineable coins, as overclocking does not provide a significant advantage for Raptorium mining.

RAM Settings and Performance

RAM settings play a crucial role in mining Raptorium. The performance differed depending on the CL (Cas Latency) value and the number of RAM sticks. CL 14 with one stick proved to be the most efficient, with a hash-to-watt ratio of 27.62, while CL 16 with two sticks had a ratio of 24.55. It's important to note that running RAM at CL 14 produced higher hash rates compared to CL 16, regardless of the number of sticks.

Ghost Rider Algorithm Explained

The Ghost Rider algorithm used by Raptorium is a combination of several mini algorithms. This dynamic algorithm constantly switches between these mini algorithms, resulting in varying power consumption and hash rates. Similar to Ravencoin's Kapow algorithm, which fluctuates within a short period, Raptorium's Ghost Rider algorithm ensures that mining with CPUs will yield different results with each attempt.

The Importance of Efficiency in Mining

Efficiency plays a crucial role in mining profitability. The hash-to-watt ratio is a key metric to consider when choosing the optimal settings for mining Raptorium. Running efficiently, with lower power consumption, not only saves energy but also maximizes your hashing power. As demonstrated in our comparison chart, running efficiently with a hash rate of 37 kilohash on the same power as maximal capacity (26.32 kilohash) proves to be more profitable in the long run.

Comparison with Other CPU Mineable Coins

In line with our previous experiences with CPU mineable coins, overclocking the CPU and RAM did not yield efficient results for Raptorium mining. The same principle applies to other coins as well. While some coins may differ in performance due to their specific algorithms, the general principle remains constant: overclocking generally decreases efficiency and hash-to-watt ratios, resulting in less profitability.

Conclusion

In conclusion, our testing with the Ryzen 3900x on Raptorium mining showcases the importance of mining efficiently rather than solely focusing on maximizing hash rates. Overclocking the CPU and RAM did not prove to be efficient, while running at optimized settings, such as CL 14 stock and CL 14 with one stick, resulted in higher hash-to-watt ratios. It is recommended to apply the same mining principles used for other CPU mineable coins. Thank you for reading, and stay tuned for more content from Rabid!
