🎙 Meet Stuart Christie: AI and IoT Evangelist

Today, we're switching things up and welcoming Stuart Christie to the show! Stuart is an Artificial Intelligence and IoT evangelist for Intel's Developer Enabling Team. He's doing some incredible work around Intel's AI for Workforce initiative as an AI faculty member. Stuart, thanks so much for being on the show with us today!


🤖 Bad Hair Barbie: A Unique AI Project

Stuart brought along a special guest named Bad Hair Barbie, a unique project that combines a Roomba base, an Intel PC, a 3D camera, and a Barbie headpiece controlled using a PlayStation Bluetooth controller. This Roomba runs on the Robot Operating System (ROS), showcasing the fun and creative projects happening at the AI for Workforce program.


🎓 AI for Workforce Program Overview

The AI for Workforce program aims to prepare current and future workers with essential skills in AI. Launched last year in the US, the program has partnerships with governments, community colleges, and currently, 31 schools in 18 states have joined.


📚 Partnerships and Educational Content

Intel provides professional training for school faculty and implementation guidance. With over 225 hours of teaching content, including pre-packed courses that can be deployed directly to students, the program is making strides in AI education.


📸 Real-World AI Demonstrations

Stuart shared some exciting moments from the Chandler-Gilbert Community College AI Incubator Lab opening event. The demos featured object detection using YOLO v3 and hand gesture recognition using OpenPose, both running on Intel's Movidius device, the NCS2.


🛠 Intel’s AI Hardware and Software

Intel's hardware and software offerings are at the forefront of AI innovation. The NCS2 and OpenVINO toolkit enable developers to run AI models efficiently on edge devices, making it accessible and scalable.

Community colleges interested in joining the program can email ai_workforce@intel.com to learn more about the offerings. Intel is also collaborating with the American Association of Community Colleges and Dell Technologies to expand the program to all 50 states by 2023.

Now you can import and securely launch Helm charts, Docker Compose images, and containers on Intel hardware in the new Kubernetes environment. Explore, edit, and test OpenVINO toolkit applications with Jupyter Lab and optimize AI models with the improved OpenVINO Deep Learning Workbench.
