Here is how to turn off Google AI overviews in your search results:
For Desktop:
- In Chrome, go to chrome://settings/searchEngines and click "Manage Search Engines and Site Search".
- Click "Add" and fill out the form with:
- Name: AI Free Web
- Shortcut: @web {google:baseURL}search?q=%s&udm=14
- Select the "AI Free Web" option and click "Make Default".
This will bypass the AI overviews and show you the regular web search results instead.
For Mobile:
- On Android, open Chrome, do a search, then tap the 3-dot menu and go to Settings > Search Engine. Select "Google Web" to avoid the AI overviews.
- On Firefox for Android, go to Settings > Search, tap "Default Search Engine", and add a new engine with:
- Name: AI-free Web
- Search string: google.com/search?udm=14&q=%s
There is no easy way to completely disable Google AI overviews, but these workarounds will allow you to bypass them and see the traditional web search results instead.
