Who is this best for?

  • Customer support managers seeking to increase response speed while maintaining quality.

  • Automation specialists building advanced AI call center n8n templates.

  • Teams needing to filter and prioritize risky or sensitive customer interactions automatically.

  • Developers looking for a robust, production-ready n8n node structure for content generation and safety checks.

Overview

Customer service agents often face a high volume of stressful or complex messages. This n8n workflow solves this by providing a high-speed, safety-checked draft system. Utilizing a powerful AI model like Claude 3.5 Sonnet, the n8n template analyzes incoming customer text, determines sentiment and tone, and drafts an empathetic, concise response. Crucially, the process includes comprehensive sanitization (removing PII, links, and controlling length) and a rigorous risk assessment based on predefined RISK_WORDS or low AI confidence. This ensures that most routine inquiries are handled rapidly (Auto-OK status), while sensitive cases automatically trigger a human handover, minimizing corporate liability and maximizing response quality. This advanced n8n workflow demonstrates how to build reliable, safe AI applications.

How it Works

The n8n workflow initiates via one of three methods: a manual n8n trigger for testing, a webhook for real-time integration (e.g., from a CRM or chat system), or a schedule trigger for batch processing.

  1. Configuration: The process begins by defining parameters in the Set Config1 n8n node, setting critical limits like reply length, formality, emoji usage, and defining an array of RISKWORDS (e.g., 'lawsuit', 'refund').

  2. AI Drafting: The core AI Agent (Empathy)1 n8n node sends the text input and configuration instructions to the Anthropic Chat Model1 (Claude AI). The AI generates a structured JSON output including sentiment, tone, reply, and an initial needshandover flag.

  3. Sanitization: The Post-Process & Sanitize1 n8n node ensures the AI-generated reply adheres to safety guidelines. It blocks links, removes PII (emails/phones), enforces the maximum character limit, and handles optional sign-offs.

  4. Risk Assessment: The Risk & Handover Rules1 n8n node calculates the final handover status. Handover is triggered if the AI confidence is too low, the sentiment is very negative, or if any of the configured RISKWORDS are found in the original message or the draft reply.

  5. Routing: The If needshandover1 n8n node acts as the flow control gate. If needs_handover is true, the draft is marked REVIEW and can be logged to Google Sheets for auditing. If false (Auto-OK), the draft is ready for immediate use (e.g., updating a Slack message or sending the reply). This entire n8n workflow structure provides reliable gating for automated communications.

Installation Guide

  1. Import the n8n workflow: Copy the provided JSON data and paste it directly into your n8n instance's workflow editor using the 'Import from JSON' function.

  2. Set up Credentials: This n8n template requires credentials for the 'Anthropic Chat Model'. Click on the node, select 'Create New Credential' for Anthropic, and input your API key. If using the optional logging step, set up Google Sheets credentials.

  3. Configure the Environment: Open the Set Config1 n8n node and customize parameters like MAXLEN, FORMALITY, and especially the RISKWORDS array to match your organization's compliance and safety requirements.

  4. Select n8n trigger: Choose your desired starting n8n node: Manual Trigger (for testing) or Webhook (for live integration). Ensure other starting nodes are disabled if not needed.

  5. Deployment: After setting the configuration and credentials, activate the n8n workflow to run live.

Node Details

  • Test Input (Change Me) / Manual Trigger / Webhook / Schedule Trigger: These function as the n8n trigger points, providing the initial customer text to be processed. The n8n workflow supports flexible integration methods.

  • Set Config1 (Set n8n node): Central configuration hub. Defines key variables (MAXLEN, RISKWORDS, BLOCKLINKS) used downstream by the AI prompt and code nodes.

  • AI Agent (Empathy)1 (LangChain Agent n8n node): The core intelligence. It uses a detailed prompt structure to analyze sentiment and draft the response. It connects to the Anthropic Chat Model.

  • Anthropic Chat Model1 (n8n node): The language model component, specifically utilizing Claude 3.5 Sonnet to execute the drafting instructions.

  • Post-Process & Sanitize1 (Code n8n node): Executes strict safety and formatting rules. It enforces length limits, removes PII, and strips unwanted content (like links or emojis), ensuring the drafted reply is safe to send.

  • Risk & Handover Rules1 (Code n8n node): Evaluates overall risk based on low AI confidence, negative sentiment, and keyword matching against the RISKWORDS list established in the configuration n8n node.

  • If needs_handover1 (If n8n node): Flow control logic. It routes the output to either the 'Auto-OK' path or the 'Needs Review' (escalation) path, based on the output of the safety checks.
