Who is this best for?

  • Content marketers and SEO specialists needing high volumes of structured content.

  • Technical writers who want to automate the drafting process from a single title.

  • Developers and users looking for advanced n8n templates integrating LangChain agents and structured data parsing.

  • Anyone utilizing Google Docs as their primary output location for AI-generated text.

Overview

Generating detailed, long-form content typically requires extensive manual outlining and writing. This advanced n8n workflow solves this bottleneck by orchestrating two distinct AI agents: one for strategic planning and one for tactical writing. The n8n automation starts with a simple form input (Title and Total Word Count). It automatically creates a new Google Doc, calculates the word limit per section, generates the content section by section, and appends the final text to the document in real-time. This n8n workflow demonstrates powerful sequential processing and advanced AI integration, ensuring professional quality and structure for your documents.

How it Works

The entire process is initiated by an n8n trigger, specifically the Form Trigger, which captures the document's Title and required Word Count.

  1. Document Setup: The workflow first uses the Google Docs n8n node to CreateDocument using the provided Title. This generates a unique Document ID crucial for subsequent updates.

  2. Planning Agent: The input Title is fed into the ContentPlanner (a specialized AI agent connected to a faster model, gpt-5-mini). This agent, paired with a Structured Output Parser, meticulously creates a detailed JSON outline, including section titles and summaries.

  3. Data Preparation: The GetSections n8n node extracts the sections array from the structured output and generates a unique session ID (documentId) to manage the session state.

  4. Loop Initiation: The Split Out n8n node separates the workflow into individual items, one for each planned section. The Loop Over Items node then processes these sections sequentially.

  5. Writing Agent: Inside the loop, the ContentWriter agent (connected to the powerful gpt-5 model) receives instructions. The system prompt incorporates the overall JSON outline and calculates the maximum word count per section (Total Word Count / Number of Sections).

  6. Content Delivery: The generated content (in Markdown format) for the current section is immediately appended to the newly created Google Document using the UpdateDocument n8n node.

  7. Completion: Once all sections are processed and the loop finishes, the Form node displays a completion message containing the direct link to the finalized Google Document.

Installation Guide

To deploy this powerful n8n template, follow these steps:

  1. Import the JSON: Copy the provided n8n workflow JSON and paste it into your n8n instance using the 'New' -> 'Import from JSON' option.

  2. OpenAI Credentials: Locate the gpt-5-mini and gpt-5 nodes. You must configure your OpenAI API Key credentials. This is essential for the AI agents to function within the n8n node structure.

  3. Google Docs Credentials: Set up OAuth2 credentials for the Google Docs service and apply them to both the CreateDocument and UpdateDocument n8n node instances.

  4. Activate the Workflow: Set the n8n workflow to 'Active'.

  5. Run the n8n Trigger: Click the 'Form' n8n node and use the provided public URL to submit your desired document Title and Word Count. The workflow will execute automatically.

Node Details

This n8n workflow relies on a complex arrangement of specialized nodes:

On form submission (n8n trigger): The starting point. Captures the primary inputs: 'Title' (the topic) and 'Word Count' (the total desired length).
CreateDocument (Google Docs n8n node): Initial action that reserves the document space in Google Docs, using the input Title as the document name.
ContentPlanner (LangChain Agent n8n node): Acts as the 'Blog Outline Generator Agent'. Uses gpt-5-mini and system instructions to create a structured JSON plan.
Structured Output Parser (LangChain n8n node): Enforces strict adherence to the expected output JSON schema, ensuring the subsequent GetSections n8n node can reliably parse the section array.
Split Out / Loop Over Items (n8n node): Crucial flow control elements. They iterate over the generated section outlines, guaranteeing that the content for each part is written and inserted sequentially.
ContentWriter (LangChain Agent n8n node): The core writing engine. It uses the larger, more capable gpt-5 model. Its system prompt contains logic to divide the total 'Word Count' evenly among the sections and ensures the output is well-formatted Markdown.

  • UpdateDocument (Google Docs n8n node): Inside the loop, this node appends the newly written section content to the original Google Document, using the document ID retrieved in the first step. This ensures high throughput and avoids large single-API calls.
