Who is this best for?

  • Content analysts or researchers who need fast, structured summaries of video content.

  • Developers looking for advanced n8n templates integrating LangChain and specific external services.

  • Teams needing to disseminate summarized information instantly via messaging apps like Telegram.

  • Anyone seeking a powerful n8n node setup for AI-driven text extraction and summarization.

Overview

Manually summarizing long YouTube videos is time-consuming and often misses key technical details. This advanced n8n workflow solves this by fully automating the process. Triggered by a simple webhook containing a URL, this automation extracts the full video transcript. It then leverages the power of the LangChain n8n integration, powered by a model like gpt-4o-mini, to analyze the raw text. The prompt is meticulously structured to ensure the output is a technically accurate, markdown-formatted summary, making this a highly valuable n8n templates solution for rapid knowledge digestion. The final result is instantly available via a webhook response and a Telegram message.

How it Works

The entire process is initiated by an external system sending a POST request to the custom n8n trigger URL.

  1. Webhook n8n Trigger: The workflow starts with the Webhook n8n node, expecting a youtubeUrl in the payload.

  2. URL Processing: A Set n8n node extracts the URL, followed by a Code n8n node that uses custom JavaScript to reliably parse the video ID, crucial for subsequent steps.

  3. Metadata Fetching: The Get YouTube Video n8n node uses the video ID to retrieve metadata, such as the title and description.

  4. Transcript Extraction: The specialized YouTube Transcript n8n node fetches the complete, time-stamped transcript text.

  5. Text Preparation: The Split Out n8n node handles large transcript outputs by splitting them into items, which are then immediately merged back together by the Concatenate n8n node into a single, cohesive input string for the AI.

  6. AI Configuration: The gpt-4o-mini n8n node is configured as the language model provider.

  7. AI Analysis: The Summarize & Analyze Transcript (LangChain Chain LLM) n8n node applies a detailed instruction prompt to the concatenated transcript. This prompt guides the AI to generate a highly structured, markdown-formatted summary, breaking content down by technical topic.

  8. Data Consolidation: The Response Object n8n node collects the newly generated summary, along with the original video metadata (title, URL), into a single output object.

  9. Delivery: The final consolidated data is sent back immediately via the Respond to Webhook n8n node and simultaneously broadcasted to a designated channel using the Telegram n8n node.

Installation Guide

To use this powerful n8n workflow, follow these steps:

  1. Import the n8n Templates: Copy the provided JSON data and paste it into your n8n instance using the 'Import Workflow' function.

  2. Set up the n8n Trigger: Activate the Webhook n8n node. Note the unique test or production URL it generates. This is the endpoint you will send YouTube URLs to.

  3. Configure Credentials:

- OpenAI/Language Model: Ensure you have credentials configured for the LangChain Language Model n8n node (ID: gpt-4o-mini).
- Telegram: Set up the credentials for the Telegram n8n node, including your Bot Token and the desired Chat ID where summaries will be posted.
- YouTube: Ensure your YouTube n8n node has valid API credentials if required by your n8n version or custom node setup.

  1. Test: Execute the n8n trigger by sending a sample JSON payload (e.g., {"youtubeUrl": "[YOURYOUTUBELINK]"}) to the webhook URL.

Node Details

Webhook (n8n trigger): Serves as the initiation point for the entire n8n workflow, configured to listen for POST requests containing the YouTube URL.
Get YouTube URL (Set n8n node): Extracts the youtubeUrl value from the incoming webhook body, standardizing the input for the next steps.
YouTube Video ID (Code n8n node): Essential custom n8n node that runs JavaScript to reliably parse the 11-character video ID from various YouTube URL formats (including short links like youtu.be).
Get YouTube Video (YouTube n8n node): Fetches official video metadata like the title and description using the extracted Video ID.
YouTube Transcript (Custom n8n node): Retrieves the full, often lengthy, transcript text from the video.
Concatenate (Summarize n8n node): A critical step in this n8n workflow. It takes segmented text inputs (resulting from the Split Out node) and combines them into one large text item (concatenated_text), ensuring the large language model receives the full context.
gpt-4o-mini (LangChain Chat LLM n8n node): Configured as the AI provider, utilizing the efficient gpt-4o-mini model for generating the analysis.
Summarize & Analyze Transcript (LangChain Chain LLM n8n node): This highly configured n8n node contains the detailed system prompt, dictating that the AI must produce a highly structured summary using Markdown, including level 2 headers, bullet points, and bold key terms.
Response Object (Set n8n node): Collects the AI-generated summary and original video data, preparing the final output structure.
Respond to Webhook & Telegram (n8n nodes): The final delivery steps, providing an immediate response to the caller and sending the structured summary to a team chat via Telegram.
