Overview

Manual keyword research for Amazon FBA products is time-consuming. This specialized n8n workflow solves this by instantly fetching high-value, long-tail search suggestions directly from the Amazon Completion API. When triggered, the workflow retrieves the initial seed keyword from Airtable, queries Amazon's service, processes the resulting list of suggestions, and updates the original Airtable record with a neat, comma-separated string of relevant keywords. This powerful n8n node sequence eliminates manual copy-pasting, drastically speeding up the optimization process. This specific n8n workflow demonstrates how to integrate external APIs seamlessly with database operations using custom logic, creating highly efficient business automation.

How it Works

This n8n workflow operates entirely on a push-based model, starting with a custom n8n trigger.

  1. Trigger Initiation: The process begins with the Receive Keyword n8n node, a Webhook n8n trigger. An external system (like a button within Airtable or an external application) sends a request containing the ID of the Airtable record needing keyword enrichment.

  2. Retrieve Seed Keyword: The Get airtable data Airtable n8n node uses the received ID to fetch the current record, extracting the base 'Keyword' to be researched.

  3. API Call: The Get Amazon keywords HTTP Request n8n node constructs a specific URL query to the Amazon Completion API, injecting the seed keyword. This returns an array of suggested search terms.

  4. Data Processing & Cleanup: The raw JSON output is processed using the Format output Split Out n8n node, separating the array of suggestions into individual items. The Clean Keywords Set n8n node then standardizes the data structure.

  5. Aggregation: The Aggregate keywords n8n node collects all the individual keyword items back together.

  6. Formatting: The Combine into string Code n8n node converts the aggregated keyword array into a clean, comma-separated string, ready for database storage.

  7. Save Results: Finally, the Save keywords Airtable n8n node updates the original Airtable record, populating the 'Keyword output' column with the freshly generated, high-volume keyword string. This completes the automated n8n workflow cycle.

Installation Guide

To deploy this useful n8n workflow, follow these steps:

  1. Import: Copy the provided JSON data and import it into your n8n instance via the 'Workflows' section by clicking 'New' > 'Import from JSON'.

  2. Airtable Credentials: Ensure you have configured an Airtable Personal Access Token credential within n8n. The existing Airtable n8n nodes (Get airtable data and Save keywords) will need this credential assigned.

  3. Base and Table Configuration: You must update the Airtable n8n nodes to point to your specific Airtable Base ID and Table Name. The default configuration points to an example 'Amazon keyword' base.

  4. Webhook Setup: After activating the n8n workflow, click on the Receive Keyword n8n trigger node to retrieve the unique Webhook URL. This URL, appended with the record ID query parameter (e.g., ?q=recXXXXXX), is what you will use to trigger the automation externally (e.g., from an Airtable script or automation).

  5. Activation: Set the n8n workflow status to 'Active' to start listening for incoming webhook triggers.

Node Details

This n8n workflow utilizes several key n8n node types for data ingestion, external API communication, and transformation:

Receive Keyword (Webhook n8n trigger):
Function: Acts as the entry point, receiving external signals (like an Airtable record ID) to initiate the keyword retrieval process.
Key Configuration: Configured with a specific webhook path/ID.

Get airtable data (Airtable n8n node):
Function: Retrieves the full record details, crucial for extracting the initial search term (Keyword) and identifying the record ID for the final update.
Key Configuration: Uses an expression (={{ $json.query.q }}) to dynamically look up the record ID passed in the initial webhook URL query.

Get Amazon keywords (HTTP Request n8n node):
Function: Communicates with the Amazon Completion API to fetch autocomplete suggestions.
Key Configuration: The URL is dynamic: ...prefix={{ $json.Keyword }}. This leverages the keyword retrieved from the preceding Airtable n8n node.

Format output (Split Out n8n node):
Function: Takes the array of keyword suggestions (contained in the suggestions field of the API response) and separates them into individual items, allowing subsequent n8n nodes to process them sequentially.

Combine into string (Code n8n node):
Function: Executes custom JavaScript to aggregate the clean keyword items back into a single string separated by commas. This is vital for clean storage in a single Airtable cell.

Save keywords (Airtable n8n node):
* Function: Performs an Update operation on the original record, using the ID retrieved earlier, to save the new comma-separated list of keywords back into the 'Keyword output' field.
