Overview

This sophisticated n8n workflow establishes a fully automated, AI-driven customer support pipeline. It solves the common problem of slow response times and repetitive manual support tasks by leveraging advanced Large Language Models (LLMs) and Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG) architecture. When a customer email arrives, the Gmail n8n trigger initiates the flow. The system intelligently analyzes the full thread context, consults a dedicated Qdrant vector knowledge base for accurate, up-to-date information, and determines if the issue can be automatically resolved or requires human escalation. This n8n node combination ensures high efficiency and consistency in customer interactions, dramatically reducing the support backlog. This powerful n8n workflow is a prime example of modern automation.

How it Works

  1. Trigger and Data Preparation: The process begins with the Gmail n8n trigger, which monitors the designated support inbox. The Extract Email Data n8n node then prepares the initial payload.

  2. Contextual Filtering: An If n8n node (Filter New Customer Emails) checks if the incoming message is a new ticket or a continuation of an existing thread. If it's a continuation, the Get Thread History n8n node retrieves the entire conversation.

  3. AI Analysis: The crucial AI Analysis Agent n8n node takes the aggregated conversation data. This agent is configured to use the OpenAI Chat Model (GPT-4) and connects to a Qdrant Vector Store (using Mistral Cloud Embeddings) to perform RAG. It generates a comprehensive analysis, including a proposed response and a boolean flag for required escalation.

  4. Decision Routing: The Needs Escalation? If n8n node routes the flow based on the AI's output.

  5. Auto-Resolution Path: If the AI determines the issue is resolved (False output), the n8n workflow sends an Automated Reply via Gmail and applies an Auto Resolved Label. The process then logs the outcome to Google Sheets.

  6. Escalation Path: If the AI determines human intervention is required (True output), the n8n workflow applies a Needs Human Review Label in Gmail.

  7. Final Steps: Regardless of the resolution path, the Log Ticket to Google Sheets n8n node records all ticket details, and a Send Status Update n8n node notifies the internal team via Telegram.

Installation Guide

  1. Import the n8n Workflow: Copy the provided JSON data and import it into your n8n instance using the "New -> Import from JSON" option. This provides a set of powerful n8n templates.

  2. Credential Setup: You must configure credentials for the following services:

Gmail: Required for the Gmail n8n trigger, thread retrieval, and sending automated replies.
OpenAI/Mistral: Required for the Large Language Models and Embedding generation used by the AI Analysis Agent n8n node.
Qdrant: Configure connection details for your vector database endpoint to ensure the knowledge base functions correctly.
Google Sheets: Set up access for the Log Ticket n8n node.
* Telegram: Required for the Send Status Update n8n node.

  1. Knowledge Base Ingestion: Use the secondary flow starting with the "On form submission" n8n trigger to load your help documentation into Qdrant. This is vital for the AI Analysis Agent's RAG capabilities.

Node Details

Gmail Trigger1 (n8n trigger): The entry point for the entire system, listening for new support emails.
Get Thread History (Gmail n8n node): Retrieves the complete historical context of a customer ticket for accurate AI analysis.
AI Analysis Agent (Langchain Agent n8n node): The central decision-making component. It uses tools and an LLM to evaluate the support request and determine the resolution strategy within this n8n workflow.
OpenAI Chat Model1 (Langchain LLM n8n node): Provides the large language model capabilities (likely GPT-4 or similar), forming the core intelligence of the agent.
Qdrant Vector Store (Langchain Vector Store n8n node): Serves as the RAG tool, connecting the agent to the specialized knowledge base using Mistral Cloud Embeddings.
Needs Escalation? (If n8n node): A flow control node that directs the ticket down the automated resolution path or the human review path based on the AI's analysis.
Send Automated Reply (Gmail n8n node): Sends the final, AI-generated resolution response back to the customer.
Log Ticket to Google Sheets (Google Sheets n8n node): Final step for recording the ticket status, resolution, and metadata for tracking purposes.
