Users needing a scheduled, automated, and duplicate-free lead generation n8n workflow.

Overview

This sophisticated n8n workflow automates the entire developer lead generation pipeline, transforming GitHub profiles into structured, scored CRM entries. The solution eliminates manual scraping and data entry by running scheduled searches based on predefined criteria (like location and programming language).

Key value points include automated lead scoring (based on followers and activity), critical contact data enrichment using a dedicated Hunter.io n8n node, and rigorous duplicate checking before saving data. This n8n template ensures that your Google Sheets database remains clean, continuously updated, and filled only with highly qualified, 'Hot' leads.

How it Works

This comprehensive n8n workflow initiates on a schedule and processes leads through three main phases: Discovery, Enrichment, and Database Sync.

  1. Scheduled Discovery: The process starts with the Schedule Trigger n8n node. The Define Developer Searches Code n8n node feeds customizable search criteria (location, language, followers) into the Search GitHub Users n8n node (HTTP Request), which retrieves initial user lists from the GitHub API.

  2. Detail Extraction and Scoring: The workflow iterates through the users. The Get User Details n8n node fetches full profile data. The pivotal Extract Developer Data n8n node cleans the information, determines the developer's website domain, and calculates a leadScore and leadQuality (Hot, Warm, Cold) based on GitHub activity.

  3. Conditional Enrichment: The Need Email Enrichment? If n8n node checks if an email is missing but a website domain is present. If true, the workflow branches to the Hunter.io Email Lookup n8n node to find a verified email address. The Update With Email n8n node integrates the enrichment result before merging the path back.

  4. Deduplication and Sync: The merged data flows to the Check For Duplicates Google Sheets n8n node, which reads existing data. The Filter Duplicates Code n8n node ensures that leads matching existing entries (by name, email, or username) are discarded. Finally, the Format For Database n8n node standardizes the output, and the Add to Lead Database Google Sheets n8n node appends the unique, high-quality lead into your CRM.

Installation Guide

To use this n8n template successfully, follow these setup steps:

  1. Import: Import the provided n8n workflow JSON into your n8n instance.

  2. GitHub API: Configure the Search GitHub Users and Get User Details HTTP Request n8n node with a GitHub Personal Access Token credential.

  3. Hunter.io API (Optional): If you wish to use email enrichment, insert your Hunter.io API Key into the Hunter.io Email Lookup n8n node.

  4. Google Sheets Setup: Create a new Google Sheet that will serve as your Lead Database. Ensure it has columns matching the output of the workflow (e.g., Lead ID, Business Name, Email, Lead Score, Notes, etc.).

  5. Google Sheets Credentials: Configure the Google Sheets n8n node credentials and update the Document ID and Sheet Name in both the Check For Duplicates and Add to Lead Database n8n nodes to point to your new spreadsheet.

  6. Customize: Adjust the search parameters within the Define Developer Searches Code n8n node to match your specific target demographics.

  7. Activate: Set the Schedule Trigger n8n trigger to the desired interval and activate the n8n workflow.

Node Details

Schedule Trigger (n8n trigger): Starts the entire n8n workflow on a defined schedule (e.g., weekly).
Define Developer Searches (Code n8n node): Defines the list of targeted searches using location and programming language criteria.
Search GitHub Users (HTTP Request n8n node): Queries the GitHub search API using dynamic inputs from the previous step. Key Configuration: Uses genericCredentialType for GitHub API token authorization in the header.
Extract Developer Data (Code n8n node): Cleans up data, extracts the primary domain from the user's blog URL, and applies a custom scoring algorithm to determine the Lead Score and Lead Quality.
Need Email Enrichment? (If n8n node): Controls the flow, sending data to Hunter.io only if email is 'Check website' AND a valid domain exists.
Hunter.io Email Lookup (HTTP Request n8n node): Performs domain-based email searching using the Hunter.io API key.
Check For Duplicates (Google Sheets n8n node): Uses the 'Read' operation to retrieve existing leads from the CRM database to check against the newly scraped data.
Filter Duplicates (Code n8n node): Logic to compare incoming leads with existing database entries, ensuring the n8n workflow only proceeds with unique developer profiles.

  • Add to Lead Database (Google Sheets n8n node): Appends the newly formatted, unique developer profiles to the specified spreadsheet, finalizing this powerful n8n workflow.
