Overview

Data professionals and researchers often need to quickly synthesize information from vast web pages, like Wikipedia articles. Manual scraping and summarization are time-consuming. This specific n8n workflow solves this by tightly integrating specialized tools: Bright Data's Web Unlocker for efficient, scalable web scraping, and Google Gemini (via the Langchain n8n node) for intelligent text extraction and summarization.

This automation provides a highly efficient and reliable way to turn complex, raw web data into clean, actionable summaries. Using this n8n template ensures that subsequent processes receive only the most relevant information, greatly accelerating research and analysis cycles. Every step is clearly defined within the n8n environment, making it a robust, reusable solution.

How it Works

This powerful n8n workflow initiates execution via a manual n8n trigger. The step-by-step logic is as follows:

  1. Initialization: The 'When clicking ‘Test workflow’' n8n trigger starts the process. This is immediately followed by the 'Set Wikipedia URL with Bright Data Zone' n8n node, which dynamically sets the target Wikipedia URL and the necessary Bright Data zone (e.g., web_unlocker1).

  2. Web Scraping: The 'Wikipedia Web Request' n8n node executes an HTTP POST request to the Bright Data API, using HTTP Header Authentication to securely retrieve the raw data from the specified Wikipedia page.

  3. Data Extraction & Formatting: The raw output is fed into the 'LLM Data Extractor' n8n node. This custom Langchain n8n node uses the 'Google Gemini Chat Model2' (Gemini-2.0-Pro-Exp) to apply a prompt that formats the noisy HTML or raw text into clean, human-readable content. This is a critical step for data quality.

  4. Content Summarization: The cleaned text proceeds to the 'Concise Summary Generator' n8n node. This specialized Langchain summarization chain utilizes the 'Google Gemini Chat Model For Summarization' (Gemini-2.0-Flash-Exp) to generate a concise abstract, ensuring the final output is brief and informative.

  5. Notification: Finally, the 'Summary Webhook Notifier' n8n node sends the extracted summary text to an external webhook URL (e.g., Webhook.site), completing the automated n8n workflow.

Installation Guide

To deploy this n8n workflow, follow these steps:

  1. Import the n8n Workflow: Copy the provided JSON code and paste it directly into your n8n instance via the 'New' menu -> 'Import from JSON'.

  2. Set Up Credentials:

Bright Data: You must set up an HTTP Header Auth credential for the 'Wikipedia Web Request' n8n node, containing your Bright Data API credentials.
Google Gemini (or substitute LLM): Configure the Google Gemini (or PaLM) API credentials required by the two Langchain n8n nodes ('Google Gemini Chat Model2' and 'Google Gemini Chat Model For Summarization').

  1. Configuration Adjustments:

In the 'Set Wikipedia URL with Bright Data Zone' n8n node, update the url value to your desired Wikipedia article and confirm the zone value matches your Bright Data account setup.
In the 'Summary Webhook Notifier' n8n node, replace the placeholder URL with the actual endpoint where you wish to receive the final summary.

Node Details

When clicking ‘Test workflow’ (n8n trigger):
Function: Manually initiates the entire n8n workflow for testing and single runs.
Set Wikipedia URL with Bright Data Zone (Set n8n node):
Function: Defines essential variables used in the scraping process: the target url (e.g., Cloud computing Wikipedia page) and the Bright Data zone (web_unlocker1).
Wikipedia Web Request (HTTP Request n8n node):
Function: Interfaces with the Bright Data API using a POST request to handle the complex scraping and retrieval of the raw data.
Key Configuration: Uses HTTP Header Authentication and sends body parameters including zone, url, and format: raw.
Google Gemini Chat Model2 & Google Gemini Chat Model For Summarization (LLM Chat n8n node):
Function: Provides the necessary Language Model connection (using models/gemini-2.0-pro-exp and models/gemini-2.0-flash-exp) to the specialized Langchain n8n nodes.
LLM Data Extractor (Langchain LLM Chain n8n node):
Function: Executes the extraction prompt, converting raw scraped content ($json.data) into structured, clean, human-readable text.
Key Configuration: Prompt instructs the model: "You are an expert Data Formatter. Make sure to format the data in a human readable manner."
Concise Summary Generator (Langchain Summarization Chain n8n node):
Function: Applies the specialized summarization prompt to distill the long text output from the extractor into a brief summary.
Summary Webhook Notifier (HTTP Request n8n node):
Function: The final action in this n8n workflow, sending the generated summary text to an external logging or application service.
