Who is this best for?

Real Estate Analysts and Market Researchers who need timely, automated market intelligence.
Business owners requiring consistent tracking of competitor moves without manual API calls.
Users looking for practical n8n templates to implement scheduled data extraction.
Teams needing a structured way to log historical competitor data using the Google Sheets n8n node.

Overview

Manually tracking competitor pricing and feature updates across multiple real estate projects is time-consuming and prone to errors. This sophisticated n8n workflow solves this critical business problem by automating the entire monitoring lifecycle. It uses a scheduled n8n trigger to poll external competitor APIs, standardize the data, log every change to Google Sheets for historical analysis, and instantly notify stakeholders via email if a price change is detected. This robust n8n automation ensures you maintain a competitive edge through real-time market awareness, leveraging the power of several key n8n node types coordinated effectively.

How it Works

The process begins with the Cron n8n trigger, which executes the n8n workflow on a defined schedule (e.g., hourly or daily).

  1. Data Fetching: The Fetch Competitor Data HTTP Request n8n node dynamically calls one of two defined competitor APIs, retrieving raw project data, including prices and features.

  2. Data Delay & Parsing: The flow briefly routes through a Wait For Data n8n node and then moves to the Parse Data Function n8n node. This node processes the raw JSON output, standardizing fields like projectName, price, features, and applying a timestamp.

  3. Historical Logging: The cleaned data is then appended to a specified Google Sheet using the Log to Google Sheets n8n node, creating a permanent historical record of all captured data points.

  4. Change Detection: The Check Price Change IF n8n node evaluates whether the current fetched price differs from the previously known price. This is the critical core logic flow control component of this n8n workflow.

  5. Alerting: If the condition is met (a price change occurred), the workflow proceeds to the Send Alert Email n8n node, which formats and sends an immediate email notification detailing the project, location, and the price adjustment. If no significant change is detected, the n8n workflow terminates.

Installation Guide

To deploy this n8n workflow template, follow these steps:

  1. Import: Copy the provided n8n workflow JSON and import it directly into your n8n instance.

  2. Cron Setup: Configure the Cron n8n trigger to your desired monitoring frequency (e.g., 0 0 for daily, or adjust for hourly checks).

  3. Credential Setup: You must configure the following credentials:

Google Sheets: Update the Log to Google Sheets n8n node with your Google API credentials and replace the placeholder sheetId (your-google-sheet-id) with the ID of your actual tracking spreadsheet.
* SMTP/Email: Provide valid SMTP credentials in the Send Alert Email n8n node to ensure alerts can be sent. Update toEmail and fromEmail accordingly.

  1. API Endpoints: Modify the URL in the Fetch Competitor Data n8n node to point to your specific competitor API endpoints.

  2. Activate: Save the n8n workflow and set it to active to begin scheduled monitoring via the n8n trigger.

Node Details

This n8n workflow relies on several key n8n node types to achieve reliable competitive monitoring:

Cron (n8n trigger): The starting point for the automation. It schedules the workflow execution, ensuring data is fetched at regular, predefined intervals.
Fetch Competitor Data (HTTP Request): Performs the necessary GET request to retrieve project data. The configuration is dynamic, attempting to fetch data from different endpoints based on the Cron trigger execution context.
Parse Data (Function): This custom code n8n node standardizes the input, mapping raw API fields (like project.name, project.price) into consistent output fields for downstream processing and logging.
Log to Google Sheets (Google Sheets n8n node): An essential part of the historical record, this n8n node appends the parsed competitor data to a spreadsheet, configured to write to the CompetitorData!A:E range.
Check Price Change (IF): A core logic flow control n8n node that uses the 'changed' operation to detect variations between the current price and the price from previous flow items, ensuring alerts are only sent when necessary.
Send Alert Email (Email Send n8n node): Sends an informative email notification to the specified recipient upon detecting a price change, detailing the project name, location, and the price movement. This n8n node requires SMTP credentials.
