Overview

This sophisticated n8n workflow solves the content production bottleneck by seamlessly integrating data management with cutting-edge AI generation and social media publishing. By deploying this n8n template, marketing teams can efficiently pull raw content ideas from a centralized Google Sheets source. The powerful n8n node dedicated to OpenAI (GPT-4) ensures high-quality, platform-specific content generation based on dynamic prompts. The workflow then uses conditional logic to route the content—in this specific n8n workflow example, it targets Twitter. Finally, it provides crucial feedback by updating the Google Sheet with the status, the generated text, and a timestamp. This allows for clear tracking and prevents duplicate posts, maximizing efficiency across the entire content lifecycle within a single, reliable n8n workflow.

How it Works

This n8n workflow operates in five distinct, sequential steps, initiated either manually or via a scheduled n8n trigger.

  1. Idea Intake: The Google Sheets n8n node retrieves rows from a specified range (Sheet1!A:C) containing content ideas and the target publishing platform.

  2. AI Generation: The data is passed to the OpenAI n8n node, configured to use GPT-4. It uses a dynamic prompt that incorporates the 'Platform' and 'Idea' fields from the sheet to generate a highly relevant and engaging social media post.

  3. Platform Check: An If n8n node acts as a core logic control, checking if the retrieved 'Platform' field specifically matches "Twitter". This ensures targeted publishing.

  4. Publishing (Conditional): If the check is true, the Twitter n8n node executes, posting the AI-generated text. If the condition is false, this step is skipped, demonstrating flexible flow control capabilities within the n8n workflow.

  5. Status Update: Regardless of whether the content was posted (as long as it was processed), the final Google Sheets n8n node appends the status ("Posted"), the final generated text, and the current timestamp back into the sheet, ensuring the content inventory is accurately maintained.

Installation Guide

  1. Import the n8n template: Copy the provided JSON code and paste it into your n8n instance via the 'New' > 'Import from JSON' option.

  2. Configure Google Sheets: You will need to set up Google Sheets credentials. Locate the 'Get Content Ideas' n8n node and the 'Update Google Sheet' n8n node. Update the Sheet ID placeholder and select your configured Google Sheets OAuth2 API credential.

  3. Configure OpenAI: Set up your OpenAI credentials (requiring access to GPT-4). Select these credentials in the 'Generate Post with OpenAI' n8n node.

  4. Configure Twitter: If publishing to Twitter, set up your Twitter OAuth 1.0 API credentials and select them in the 'Post to Twitter' n8n node.

  5. Define the Input Sheet: Ensure your Google Sheet has columns corresponding to 'Idea' and 'Platform' within the specified range for the initial Google Sheets n8n node to function correctly.

  6. Activate: Save the n8n workflow and test the execution.

Node Details

Get Content Ideas (Google Sheets n8n node):
Function: Serves as the data input source, retrieving ideas and associated platform data from the spreadsheet.
Key Configuration: Reads range Sheet1!A:C using the 'Read Data' operation.
Generate Post with OpenAI (OpenAI n8n node):
Function: Generates the marketing copy using the GPT-4 model based on contextual inputs from the Google Sheet data.
Key Configuration: Uses the dynamic prompt: Create a social media post for {{$node["Get Content Ideas"].json["Platform"]}} based on this idea: {{$node["Get Content Ideas"].json["Idea"]}}. Keep it engaging and concise.
Check Platform (If n8n node):
Function: Directs the flow based on the content requirement, only proceeding down the success path if the designated platform is "Twitter".
Key Configuration: Condition is {{$node["Get Content Ideas"].json["Platform"]}} equals Twitter.
Post to Twitter (Twitter n8n node):
Function: Publishes the generated text content to the Twitter platform.
Key Configuration: Posts the text retrieved from the OpenAI n8n node: {{$node["Generate Post with OpenAI"].json["text"]}}.
Update Google Sheet (Google Sheets n8n node):
Function: Appends the outcome data (status, generated post, timestamp) to the sheet, logging the result of the n8n workflow execution.
* Key Configuration: Uses the 'Append Data' operation to write status and text to range Sheet1!D:F.
