Who is this best for?

Project Managers or Team Leads needing quick, standardized project initiation.
Users looking to build complex, multi-step conversational AI agents within n8n.
Organizations that require automated file structure creation (Dropbox) linked with communication platforms (Slack, Gmail).
n8n users interested in advanced LangChain integration and Micro-Frontend (MCP) usage.

Overview

This sophisticated n8n workflow demonstrates how to create a highly functional, multi-step automation driven by natural language input. Instead of relying on manual forms or button clicks, users can simply chat with the system to initiate a new project. The core intelligence resides in the specialized AI Agent, configured with a detailed system message that enforces a two-stage process: first, ensuring standardized Dropbox folder creation (using various Dropbox n8n node functions exposed as tools), and second, awaiting confirmation before triggering team notifications via Slack and Gmail. This n8n workflow effectively turns complex business processes into simple conversations, offering a huge leap in efficiency over traditional methods. This is an excellent example of advanced n8n templates integrating AI agents with cloud services.

How it Works

The entire process begins with the When chat message received n8n trigger.

  1. Trigger and Initialization: A user sends a project creation request to the conversational interface, which activates the initial n8n trigger. This message, along with the conversational history (maintained by the Simple Memory n8n node), is passed to the AI Agent.

  2. Stage 1: Folder Creation: The AI Agent interprets the request and, utilizing the specialized Dropbox MCP tool (which exposes the create folder n8n node), creates a main project folder and five required sub-folders in Dropbox. If successful, the agent reports the creation and asks for explicit confirmation to proceed to the notification phase.

  3. Tool Exposure via MCP: All Dropbox operations (create, copy, move, etc.) are exposed to the agent via an MCP Server Trigger and the corresponding Dropbox MCP client n8n node.

  4. Stage 2: Notification: Upon receiving confirmation (e.g., “yes”), the AI Agent uses the Notify tool (which links to a separate notification workflow using an MCP Server Trigger). This sub-workflow executes the final actions:

Send a message in Gmail: Sends a project initiation email.
Send a message in Slack: Posts a confirmation message to the designated #projects channel.

  1. Completion: The AI Agent confirms to the user that all actions, including the file setup and notifications, have been completed. This robust n8n workflow ensures crucial project setup steps are never missed.

Installation Guide

To deploy this expert n8n workflow, follow these steps:

  1. Import the n8n template: Copy the provided JSON data and paste it into your n8n instance using the 'New' -> 'Import from JSON' function.

  2. Credential Setup: This workflow requires several external credentials. Refer to the 'Sticky Note' n8n node included in the workflow for detailed step-by-step instructions for setting up:

Dropbox OAuth2
Gmail OAuth2
Slack API (Bot User Token)
Azure OpenAI (for the GPT n8n node)
* Google Gemini (for the Gemini n8n node)

  1. Activate Micro-Frontend (MCP) Webhooks: Ensure your n8n instance is publicly accessible and the webhook paths for the MCP Server Trigger nodes (e.g., 57602556-3e32-4991-8215-dc8dcae6b1c3) are correctly configured and accessible by the AI Agent.

  2. Language Model Configuration: Review the AI Agent node and ensure the connected language models (GPT and Gemini) are properly credentialed and accessible.

  3. Activate: Set the n8n workflow to 'Active' to start listening for chat messages.

Node Details

When chat message received (n8n trigger): The entry point of the n8n workflow. It listens for incoming chat messages to initiate the project setup sequence.
AI Agent (LangChain Agent n8n node): The brain of the automation. It uses a complex system message defining the two-stage execution plan (Folder Creation then Notification confirmation). It dynamically selects and utilizes the exposed tools (Dropbox and Notify).
Simple Memory (LangChain Memory n8n node): Maintains the conversation history, allowing the AI Agent to remember the initial request and the subsequent confirmation required for notifications.
MCP Server Trigger (n8n trigger) & Dropbox Tools: A critical component for tool exposure. This trigger acts as a dedicated endpoint housing various Dropbox operation n8n node functions (like create folder, copy folder, delete folder), making them callable by the AI Agent.
Dropbox MCP & Notify (MCP Client Tool n8n node): These nodes are used inside the main workflow to reference the functions exposed by the respective MCP Server Triggers, effectively granting the AI Agent access to perform file operations and notification actions.
Send a message in Gmail (Gmail Tool n8n node): Used by the AI Agent (via the Notify MCP) to send out standardized email notifications confirming project creation, using dynamic content derived from the conversation.

  • Send a message in Slack (Slack Tool n8n node): Used to post a message to a team channel, ensuring quick internal communication about the new project.
