Overview

This comprehensive n8n workflow provides a solution for users who need timely, detailed, and personalized weather information delivered directly to their preferred messaging platform. Instead of relying on standard, often cluttered weather apps, this automation uses an advanced Code n8n node to process raw OpenWeatherMap API data, generating custom daily overviews, temperature ranges, humidity assessments, and actionable recommendations (like 'Bring an umbrella'). This specialized n8n template is triggered daily, ensuring you receive the forecast before starting your day. By leveraging the power of n8n, this system turns raw data into highly useful, formatted reports, demonstrating the flexibility and customization available within an n8n automation framework.

How it Works

This automation begins with the Schedule n8n trigger, configured to fire daily at 7:50 AM.

  1. Trigger: The Daily Morning n8n trigger initiates the execution flow at the specified time (7:50 AM, local time relevant to the n8n environment).

  2. Data Fetching: The OpenWeather API Request n8n node then executes an HTTP GET request to the OpenWeatherMap 5-day forecast endpoint. This specific call requests data for Strassen, Luxembourg (customizable location) using metric units. The n8n node is configured with robust error handling, including three retry attempts.

  3. Smart Processing: The workflow moves to the highly customized Weather Data Processor n8n node (a Code node). This node contains extensive JavaScript logic to:

Filter the 5-day data to focus only on today and specific hours (9 AM, 12 PM, 3 PM, 6 PM, 9 PM).
Calculate daily high and low temperatures, total expected rainfall, and average wind speed/humidity.
Generate smart, context-aware emojis for temperature, wind, and weather conditions (including day/night variations).
Assemble a final, structured message using HTML formatting, complete with daily overview, hourly breakdown, and personalized recommendations (e.g., UV advice, reminder to wear warm clothes, or bring an umbrella).

  1. Delivery: Finally, the Send Weather Update Telegram n8n node receives the HTML message output. It uses the configured Telegram credentials and Chat ID to instantly send the richly formatted forecast to the target group or private chat. This completes the daily execution of the n8n workflow.

Prerequisites

  1. An active n8n instance (cloud or self-hosted).

  2. An API Key from OpenWeatherMap.

  3. A Telegram Bot token and the target Chat ID.

Step-by-Step Installation

  1. Import the n8n Workflow: Copy the provided n8n workflow JSON and paste it directly into your n8n instance via the 'New' menu -> 'Import Workflow from JSON'.

  2. Configure OpenWeatherMap API Key:

Locate the OpenWeather API Request n8n node.
In the URL field, replace API_KEY with your actual OpenWeatherMap API key.
Optional: Modify the q=Strassen query parameter to your desired city and country code (e.g., q=London,GB).

  1. Configure Telegram Credentials:

Click on the Send Weather Update n8n node.
Set up a new Telegram API credential by providing your Bot Token (obtained from BotFather).
Update the Chat ID field with the ID of the group or chat where the messages should be sent (This must be updated from the placeholder -1002521174755).

  1. Review Schedule: Check the Daily Morning Trigger n8n trigger node to ensure the 7:50 AM schedule aligns with your local time needs, adjusting the hour and minute as necessary.

  2. Test and Activate: Execute the n8n workflow manually to verify the Telegram output. Once satisfied, set the n8n workflow status to Active.
