Who is this best for?

Wellness Enthusiasts: Individuals looking to enforce a strict, healthy evening ritual.
Creators and Entrepreneurs: Users needing an automated transition from work mode to rest mode.
n8n Users: Developers or automators seeking complex, branching n8n templates utilizing multiple services (Telegram, Notion, OpenAI).
Technical Users: Anyone wanting to build sophisticated n8n workflow logic involving conditional routing and dynamic data manipulation.

Overview

Achieving work-life balance requires intentional transitions. This sophisticated n8n workflow solves the problem of inconsistent evening routines by automating a personalized wind-down sequence.

At 9 PM daily, the n8n trigger starts the process by sending a mood check via Telegram. Based on the user's tap (Tired or Great), the workflow dynamically branches. If the user is tired, it provides immediate resources (like a meditation link) and optionally uses an OpenAI n8n node to generate a reflection prompt. If the user is feeling great, it celebrates the achievement.

Regardless of the path, the system logs the session details, including the dynamic mood and reflection, into a centralized Notion database. The final step is sending a personalized 'Goodnight' email containing a pre-selected affirmation for the next morning. This powerful n8n template demonstrates advanced flow control and integration across disparate services, providing immediate utility and serving as an excellent example of a complex n8n workflow implementation.

How it Works

This automation follows a two-part logical sequence, initiated by a scheduled event and completed by a user interaction.

  1. Scheduled Initiation (9 PM Daily): The Cron: 9PM Daily n8n trigger fires, setting configuration variables via the Set: User Config (Cron Path) n8n node. It then uses the Telegram: Ask Mood n8n node to send a message to the user with actionable inline buttons (Tired / Great).

  2. User Response Handling: The execution halts until the user taps a button, which is captured by the Telegram Trigger: Button Tap n8n trigger. Data is parsed by subsequent Set n8n nodes.

  3. Conditional Routing: The IF: Tired? n8n node checks the user's mood selection.

  4. Path A (Tired): The flow sends a calming message and meditation link via Telegram: Send Meditation. It optionally passes the context to the GPT: Reflection Prompt (optional) n8n node (using OpenAI) to generate a personalized reflection prompt. This path then selects a unique affirmation using the Code: Pick Affirmation n8n node.

  5. Path B (Great): The flow uses the Telegram: Celebrate Win n8n node to acknowledge the positive mood. It proceeds to select an affirmation using the Code: Pick Affirmation (Great) n8n node.

  6. Central Logging: Both paths converge, using Set n8n nodes to format the data, which is then logged into the designated Notion database using the Notion: Log Entry n8n node.

  7. Final Action: Finally, a personalized 'Goodnight' email, containing the dynamically selected morning affirmation, is dispatched using the Email: Goodnight n8n node, completing the automated n8n workflow.

Installation Guide

To deploy this comprehensive n8n workflow, follow these steps:

  1. Import the n8n Template: Copy the provided JSON and import it directly into your n8n instance.

  2. Credential Setup: Ensure you have configured the following credentials (required by various n8n node types):

Telegram: Set up a Telegram Bot credential (via BotFather) and ensure the chat ID is correctly configured in the Telegram n8n nodes.
Notion: Create an integration and grant it access to your Evening Reflection Log database. Use the Notion credential in the Notion n8n node.
Email (SMTP/Gmail): Configure your email service credentials for the Email: Goodnight n8n nodes.
OpenAI (Optional): If you intend to use the AI reflection feature, provide your OpenAI credentials.

  1. Notion Database Preparation: Create a Notion database named Evening Reflection Log containing specific properties, including Title, Mood (Select), Reflection (Text), and Date (Date).

  2. Configure User Variables: Edit the Set: User Config n8n node to input your personal email address, the Notion database ID, and toggle the gpt_enabled flag if you wish to activate the optional OpenAI step in this n8n workflow.

  3. Activation: Once credentials and configurations are complete, activate the n8n workflow to schedule the 9 PM trigger.

Node Details

This n8n workflow leverages several powerful n8n node types for flow control, integration, and data processing:

Cron: 9PM Daily (n8n Trigger):
Function: Serves as the primary n8n trigger, initiating the entire evening ritual daily at 9:00 PM.
Key Configuration: Scheduled frequency set to run every day at a specific time.
Telegram: Ask Mood (n8n Node):
Function: Sends the initial wind-down message and provides users with actionable inline keyboard buttons for mood selection (Tired/Great).
Key Configuration: Uses a configured Telegram Bot credential and specific chat ID.
Telegram Trigger: Button Tap (n8n Trigger):
Function: Waits and listens specifically for the callback data generated when a user taps one of the mood buttons, allowing the n8n workflow to continue.
Key Configuration: Listens for the callback query.
IF: Tired? (n8n Node):
Function: A critical flow control n8n node that routes the execution based on the data captured by the n8n trigger (i.e., whether the user tapped 'Tired' or 'Great').
Key Configuration: Condition checks the parsed mood variable.
GPT: Reflection Prompt (optional) (n8n Node):
Function: Conditionally generates a personalized, reflective prompt using the OpenAI API, enriching the journal entry if the user opts in.
Key Configuration: Uses the Chat Completion method with a system prompt optimized for reflection.
Notion: Log Entry (n8n Node):
Function: Takes the compiled data (mood, reflection, affirmation, date) and creates a new entry (a Page) in the Notion Evening Reflection Log database.
Key Configuration: Operation set to 'Create' a database item, mapping custom fields.
Email: Goodnight (n8n Node):
Function: Sends the final, personalized email containing the morning affirmation, marking the conclusion of the automated n8n workflow.
* Key Configuration: Recipient dynamically pulled from the initial user configuration set.
