Overview

Keeping track of competitor performance on social media is crucial but often manual. This specialized n8n workflow solves this by providing an end-to-end automation pipeline. It uses a Bright Data n8n node to efficiently scrape details (text, likes, comments) from any public LinkedIn post URL. This raw data is then fed into a Google Gemini AI model via a dedicated n8n node, which acts as a strategic analyst, generating key insights like post intent, engagement rating, and marketing takeaways.

The entire process is governed by a robust data structure, ensuring the AI's complex reasoning is formatted cleanly before being saved to Google Sheets. This highly efficient n8n automation turns unstructured social media data into actionable competitive intelligence, saving hours of manual analysis and providing a powerful example of what is possible with advanced n8n templates.

How it Works

This n8n workflow is designed for manual execution, starting with a powerful n8n trigger:

  1. Trigger and Input (Start Analysis): The process begins with the Start Analysis (Manual Trigger) n8n trigger. Following the trigger, the Set LinkedIn Post URL n8n node defines the specific LinkedIn post URL the user wants to analyze.

  2. Data Extraction (Bright Data): The workflow proceeds to the Scrape LinkedIn Post Details n8n node, which leverages Bright Data's Web Scrapper resource to extract comprehensive metadata from the target URL, including post text, engagement metrics, and top comments.

  3. AI Orchestration (Post Analyzer agent): The scraped data is passed to the Post Analyzer agent n8n node. This agent, powered by the Google Gemini Chat Model1, is instructed to analyze the post and generate strategic insights.

  4. Structured Output: To guarantee clean data, the AI agent uses the Auto-fixing Output Parser and Structured Output Parser n8n nodes. These components force the Google Gemini response into a predefined JSON schema containing fields like summary, postintent, and marketingtakeaway.

  5. Data Persistence (Google Sheets): Finally, the Save Analysis to Google Sheet n8n node takes the perfectly structured AI output and appends it as a new row in a connected Google Sheets document. This completes the n8n workflow, transforming a URL into a documented business insight.

Installation Guide

To deploy this n8n workflow and start your competitive analysis, follow these steps:

  1. Import the n8n Workflow: Copy the provided JSON data and paste it into your n8n instance using the 'New' menu and 'Import from JSON' option.

  2. Bright Data Credentials: Configure the Scrape LinkedIn Post Details n8n node with your Bright Data API credentials.

  3. Google Gemini Credentials: Update the Google Gemini Chat Model and Google Gemini Chat Model1 n8n nodes with your Google Gemini (PaLM) API key.

  4. Google Sheets Credentials: Set up Service Account credentials for Google Sheets in the Save Analysis to Google Sheet n8n node. Ensure the service account has write access to the target spreadsheet.

  5. Sheet Setup: Specify the Document ID and Sheet Name where the analysis results should be saved. We recommend copying the suggested template sheet found in the workflow documentation.

  6. Execute the n8n Trigger: Click 'Execute Workflow' after inputting the target LinkedIn URL into the Set LinkedIn Post URL n8n node to run your first analysis.

Node Details

Start Analysis (Manual Trigger): The starting n8n node, which manually initiates the entire n8n workflow execution.
Set LinkedIn Post URL (Set n8n node): Used to define the specific post URL variable (e.g., https://www.linkedin.com/...) that Bright Data will scrape.
Scrape LinkedIn Post Details (Bright Data n8n node): Function is to extract raw data (engagement, text, user details) from the LinkedIn URL using the Bright Data Web Scrapper resource.
Post Analyzer agent (Langchain Agent n8n node): The core intelligence node. It uses a detailed persona prompt ('social media strategist') to analyze the raw LinkedIn data and structure strategic insights.
Google Gemini Chat Model / Google Gemini Chat Model1 (LLM n8n node): Provides the large language model capability to the AI Agent for performing complex reasoning and analysis.
Auto-fixing Output Parser / Structured Output Parser (Output Parser n8n node): Essential for ensuring the AI's response adheres to a strict JSON format defined by a schema, guaranteeing clean input for Google Sheets.

  • Save Analysis to Google Sheet (Google Sheets n8n node): The final action. Appends the structured AI output (Summary, Intent, Takeaway, etc.) into the specified Google Sheet document, leveraging the output mapping to match spreadsheet columns.
