Who is this best for?

SEO Specialists: Who need real-time, local keyword data for content optimization. Market Researchers: Looking to track regional interest shifts without manual effort. n8n Users: Seeking advanced n8n templates that combine AI Agents, web scraping (Bright Data), and data persistence (Google Sheets). Digital Marketers: Who want to quickly identify and capitalize on emerging local trends.

Overview

Keeping up with rapidly changing local search trends is critical for maintaining high relevance in local SEO and content strategy. Manually tracking Google Trends across different regions is time-consuming and inefficient. This powerful n8n workflow solves this by providing a fully automated system.

This n8n automation leverages the power of an AI Agent to orchestrate the scraping process via the Bright Data MCP n8n node. It reliably extracts structured data—including the trending keyword, its score, and the date it was observed—and neatly deposits everything into a Google Sheet. This makes it an essential n8n template for any data-driven team looking to boost their local search presence, ensuring they always have the latest data available without writing a single line of complex scraping code.

How it Works

This powerful n8n workflow begins execution using the Manual Start n8n trigger.

  1. Input Definition: The initial Set n8n node defines the target Google Trends URL (e.g., focused on the US region). This is the mission assigned to the AI Agent.

  2. AI Orchestration and Scraping: The core logic resides in the Scrape Trends with MCP n8n node (an Agent node). This agent uses an underlying OpenAI Chat Model and the Bright Data MCP n8n node as its tool. The AI analyzes the instruction, uses Bright Data to scrape the dynamic Google Trends page, and then utilizes a Structured Output Parser to ensure the results—keywords, scores, and dates—are returned as a clean, machine-readable JSON array.

  3. Data Processing: The Split Trends (One per Item) n8n Code node takes the JSON array received from the AI Agent and transforms it. It iterates through the list of trending keywords, creating a separate data item for each keyword, making them ready for bulk insertion.

  4. Data Persistence: Finally, the Save to Google Sheets n8n node takes each individual data item (the single keyword, score, and date) and appends it as a new row in the specified Google Sheet document. This reliable n8n workflow ensures your trends data is centralized and accessible for analysis.

Installation Guide

To deploy and run this sophisticated n8n template, follow these steps:

  1. Import the n8n Workflow: Copy the provided JSON code and import it into your n8n instance via the Workflows section (Import from JSON).

  2. Credentials Setup:

Google Sheets: Set up your Google Sheets OAuth2 API credentials in the Save to Google Sheets n8n node, ensuring the connected account has write access to the target spreadsheet.
OpenAI: Configure your OpenAI API Key credentials for the OpenAI Model n8n nodes, as these power the AI Agent's decision-making and structured output parsing.
* Bright Data MCP: Set up the credentials for the Bright Data MCP n8n node, which performs the actual web scraping.

  1. Configure Target Sheet: In the Save to Google Sheets n8n node, ensure the correct Document ID and Sheet Name are selected. The current configuration maps Keyword, Score, and Date fields.

  2. Execute: Use the Manual Start n8n trigger to run the n8n workflow manually, or schedule the n8n trigger to run periodically (e.g., daily or hourly) to maintain fresh data.

Node Details

This n8n workflow utilizes several specialized nodes:

🔌 Trigger: Manual Start (n8n trigger): Initiates the flow upon manual execution. Essential for testing and on-demand data retrieval.
📝 Set google trends URL (n8n node): A Set n8n node used to define the constant URL for Google Trends, specifically targeting the US region (?geo=US).
🤖 Scrape Trends with MCP (n8n node): An Agent n8n node. It orchestrates the operation, deciding when and how to use the underlying tools (OpenAI and Bright Data) to execute the scraping command and return structured data.
🌐 Bright Data MCP (n8n node): The specialized tool used by the Agent to perform the web scraping task against the Google Trends website.
🧩 Split Trends (One per Item) (n8n node): A Code n8n node that processes the array of keywords into individual items, ensuring the subsequent Google Sheets n8n node can append them row-by-row.
📄 Save to Google Sheets (n8n node): Connects to Google Sheets to perform the append operation, saving the extracted keyword, score, and date data points. This is the final output of the n8n workflow.
