Overview

Managing video content publishing across multiple platforms—like YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, and LinkedIn—is time-consuming and prone to error. This sophisticated n8n workflow solves this problem by creating a unified, scheduled distribution engine.

The core of this powerful n8n workflow is its ability to centralize content management in a Google Sheet and use an n8n trigger (Schedule Trigger) to automate the entire process.

It first retrieves video metadata from the sheet, prepares the data (including Google Drive IDs for the media), and then leverages the Blotato API for efficient uploading and platform-specific publishing. Critically, it incorporates an OpenAI n8n node to generate optimized, platform-specific descriptions or hashtags, turning a simple bulk upload into an intelligent content distribution strategy. This high-value n8n template significantly reduces operational overhead for content teams.

How it Works

The entire process is initiated by a reliable n8n trigger and branches out into parallel publishing streams:

  1. Scheduled Activation (n8n trigger): The workflow starts with a Schedule Trigger node, ensuring the automation runs automatically at predetermined intervals (e.g., hourly or daily) to check for new content.

  2. Data Retrieval: The Google Sheets n8n node reads the specified content sheet, extracting key data points like video titles, descriptions, status, and media file references.

  3. Data Preparation: A Set n8n node (Get Google Drive ID) extracts the necessary media identifiers, followed by the Setup Social Accounts node which injects the required API tokens and identifiers needed for the Blotato service.

  4. Initial Video Upload: The Upload to Blotato n8n node (an HTTP Request) securely sends the primary video file and metadata to the Blotato API service.

  5. AI Optimization and Branching: After the main upload, the workflow immediately splits. One critical branch sends data to the OpenAI n8n node to generate optimized captions. This is a crucial AI automation step in this n8n workflow.

  6. Image Upload: The results from the OpenAI optimization feed into the Upload to Blotato - Image node to handle thumbnail or preview image uploads.

  7. Multi-Platform Publishing: The workflow then executes nine parallel HTTP Request n8n nodes, each configured to hit the Blotato publishing endpoint for a specific social platform (YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, TikTok, Threads, Twitter, Bluesky, and Pinterest). This massive parallel execution ensures rapid, simultaneous deployment across all target networks.

Installation Guide

To deploy this comprehensive n8n workflow, follow these steps:

  1. Import the n8n Workflow: Copy the provided JSON data and paste it directly into your n8n instance's workflow editor using the 'Import from JSON' function.

  2. Set up Credentials:

Google Sheets: Configure credentials for the Google Sheets n8n node, ensuring it has read access to your video manifest spreadsheet.
OpenAI: Set up your API key credentials for the OpenAI n8n node.
* Blotato API: The various HTTP Request n8n nodes interact with the Blotato API. You must configure these nodes with your specific Blotato API credentials and keys, typically done within the 'Setup Social Accounts' set node or directly in the HTTP headers.

  1. Configure Source Data: Ensure your Google Sheet is structured correctly, containing columns for video titles, descriptions, and the Google Drive File ID for the video content.

  2. Customize the n8n trigger: Adjust the Schedule Trigger node parameters to match your desired content release cadence.

  3. Activate: Save and activate the n8n workflow. It will now run on schedule to publish your content.

Node Details

This n8n workflow relies on a mix of core and community n8n node functionality:

Schedule Trigger (n8n trigger):
Function: Starts the n8n workflow at designated times.
Key Configuration: Time zone and interval settings for content publishing checks.
Google Sheets:
Function: Acts as the central content manifest, pulling metadata for the videos scheduled for publishing.
Key Configuration: Specifies the Spreadsheet ID and the Range from which data is read.
Set (Get Google Drive ID / Setup Social Accounts):
Function: Pre-processes the data by setting necessary variables, such as social account IDs, API keys, and preparing the media file IDs for the Blotato API requests.
Key Configuration: Mapping input sheet data to output variables required by subsequent HTTP Requests.
HTTP Request (Upload to Blotato):
Function: Executes the initial connection to the Blotato API to upload the video asset.
Key Configuration: POST method, URL endpoint for media upload, and including the video file ID and authentication tokens in the body/headers.
OpenAI (n8n node):
Function: An AI agent used to dynamically rewrite or generate optimized captions and tags for platforms like TikTok or Instagram based on the initial video title and description.
Key Configuration: Specifies the model (e.g., GPT-3.5 or GPT-4) and the prompt for generating marketing copy.
HTTP Request (Publishing Nodes, e.g., [Youtube] Publish via Blotato):
Function: The final action nodes responsible for instructing the Blotato service to publish the uploaded content to the respective social network.
Key Configuration: Specific platform parameters and the file reference ID received from the initial upload step.
