Developers seeking an advanced n8n workflow example utilizing API polling and loops.

Overview

Collecting large volumes of reliable real estate data can be slow and challenging due to anti-scraping measures. This specific n8n workflow solves this by utilizing the Bright Data Zillow Dataset Collector, which ensures high reliability and data quality. The automation is initiated via an easy-to-use n8n trigger form, allowing users to define the search parameters (location and listing type). Once triggered, the n8n workflow handles the entire complex process: initiating the scraping job, continuously monitoring the job status via API polling (a crucial step managed by several key n8n node configurations), retrieving the finalized data, and structuring it neatly before appending it to your designated Google Sheet. This is an essential n8n tool for anyone automating real estate data acquisition.

How it Works

This highly efficient n8n workflow starts when a user fills out the integrated Form n8n trigger, specifying the desired 'Location' and 'Listing Category' (e.g., 'House for rent').

  1. Triggering the Scraper: The form input immediately passes to the '📤 Trigger Bright Data Scraping Job' n8n node, which sends an HTTP POST request to the Bright Data API to start the Zillow scraping job, using the user inputs as filters.

  2. Status Polling: The workflow then enters a monitoring loop. The '⏳ Check Scraping Job Status' n8n node repeatedly queries Bright Data using the job's snapshotid.

  3. Completion Check: The '✅ Check If Scraping Complete' conditional n8n node evaluates the status. If the status is 'ready', it proceeds. If not, the '⏱️ Wait Before Retry' n8n node pauses the execution for 1 minute before checking the status again, ensuring the n8n workflow doesn't overload the APIs while waiting for data.

  4. Data Retrieval & Validation: Once complete, the '📊 Validate Property Data Exists' n8n node checks if any records were found. If yes, the '📥 Fetch Property Listing Data' n8n node downloads the full, structured property data using the snapshotid.

  5. Saving to Sheets: Finally, the '📄 Save Property Data to Google Sheets' n8n node maps key data points (URL, City, Zestimate, Agent Phone, etc.) from the scraped JSON payload and automatically appends them as new rows in your configured Google Sheet. This entire process demonstrates the power of flexible n8n templates for real-time data needs.

Installation Guide

To deploy this n8n workflow, follow these steps:

  1. Import the n8n template: Copy the provided JSON and import it directly into your n8n instance.

  2. Bright Data Credentials: Locate the '📤 Trigger Bright Data Scraping Job' and '⏳ Check Scraping Job Status' HTTP Request n8n nodes. Update the Authorization header parameter with your actual Bright Data API Key. Note: This workflow assumes you have access to the Zillow dataset (ID: gd_lfqkr8wm13ixtbd8f5).

  3. Google Sheets Setup: Create a new Google Sheet to store the property data. Make sure it has relevant header columns (e.g., URL, City, Home Status, Zestimate).

  4. Google Sheets Credential: Configure your Google Sheets credential in the '📄 Save Property Data to Google Sheets' n8n node. You will need to select your Google Sheet document ID and the specific sheet name (default is 'Zillow').

  5. Activate the n8n workflow: Once all credentials and sheet details are configured, activate the n8n workflow to start accepting submissions via the Form n8n trigger.

Node Details

📝 Form Trigger - Start Property Search (n8n trigger):
Function: Serves as the initiation point for the entire n8n workflow. It collects mandatory inputs: Location and Listing Category.
Key Configuration: Defines two required fields: 'Location' (text) and 'Listing Category' (dropdown with 'House for rent' and 'House for sale').
📤 Trigger Bright Data Scraping Job (n8n node):
Function: Sends the user-defined search parameters to Bright Data's API to initiate the heavy lifting of the scraping job.
Key Configuration: Uses a POST method, injects location data using expression {{ $json.Location }} into the JSON body, and requires the Bright Data API key in the Authorization header.
⏳ Check Scraping Job Status (n8n node):
Function: An HTTP Request n8n node used within the polling loop to check if the Bright Data job is complete. It uses the snapshotid returned from the trigger step.
✅ Check If Scraping Complete (n8n node):
Function: Core flow control. This IF n8n node checks if the status equals 'ready'. If true, the workflow proceeds to data retrieval; otherwise, it branches to the wait step.
⏱️ Wait Before Retry (n8n node):
Function: Manages the API polling frequency by pausing the n8n workflow for 1 minute before attempting the status check again, saving resources.
📥 Fetch Property Listing Data (n8n node):
Function: Downloads the final, scraped property data JSON from the Bright Data API after the job is confirmed 'ready'.
📄 Save Property Data to Google Sheets (n8n node):
Function: The final action in this n8n workflow. It structures the large JSON response into specific columns and appends the new property listings to the linked Google Sheet.
* Key Configuration: Configured for the 'append' operation and includes detailed field mapping for Zillow data points like hdpUrl, city, zestimate, and agent
phone_number.
