What is 4todo?

4todo is a specialized productivity skill that brings the power of the Eisenhower Matrix to your AI agent. It allows users to capture, prioritize, and reorder tasks across multiple workspaces using simple natural language. By integrating with Openclaw Skills, this tool bridges the gap between development environments and personal organization, ensuring that urgent and important tasks are handled effectively without leaving the chat interface.

The skill leverages a robust API to manage not just standard todos, but also recurring tasks and workspace hierarchies. It is designed with a non-technical focus, translating complex quadrant logic into intuitive categories like Urgent & Important while maintaining high security through secure environment variable injection.

4todo Use Cases

  • Capturing and categorizing new tasks immediately during a brainstorming or coding session.
  • Prioritizing a cluttered backlog into the four Eisenhower Matrix quadrants for better focus.
  • Managing recurring administrative or maintenance tasks across different project workspaces.
  • Reordering task lists dynamically based on changing project requirements and deadlines.

How 4todo Works

  1. The agent initializes the session by checking for the FOURTODO_API_TOKEN environment variable.
  2. It fetches available workspaces to establish the current context for task operations.
  3. User requests are parsed and translated into specific curl-based API calls to the 4todo backend.
  4. Tasks are categorized into internal quadrants (IU, IN, NU, NN) based on priority instructions.
  5. The agent provides a human-readable summary of the changes, masking internal IDs unless technical details are requested.

4todo Setup

To use this skill, you must first obtain an API token from your 4todo settings. Follow these steps to configure Openclaw Skills for your environment.

Local Host Configuration

Edit your ~/.openclaw/openclaw.json file:

{
  "skills": {
    "entries": {
      "4todo": {
        "enabled": true,
        "env": {
          "FOURTODO_API_TOKEN": "YOUR_SECRET_TOKEN"
        }
      }
    }
  }
}

Sandboxed Docker Configuration

For sandboxed agents, ensure the environment variable is passed to the container:

{
  "agents": {
    "defaults": {
      "sandbox": {
        "docker": {
          "env": {
            "FOURTODO_API_TOKEN": "YOUR_SECRET_TOKEN"
          }
        }
      }
    }
  }
}

4todo Data Schema & Taxonomy

The 4todo skill organizes data into a hierarchical structure of workspaces and todos. When used within Openclaw Skills, it follows this schema:

Entity Description Key Attributes
Workspace Container for todos Name, Internal ID
Todo An individual task Name, Quadrant (IU, IN, NU, NN), Status
Recurring Todo A task that repeats Name, Frequency, Quadrant

Priority Quadrant Mapping:

  • IU: Urgent & Important
  • IN: Important (Not Urgent)
  • NU: Urgent (Not Important)
  • NN: Neither (Not Urgent, Not Important)

4todo Advanced Features

  • Support for complex recurring task logic, including specific frequency triggers like Fridays.
  • Relative reordering capabilities allowing tasks to be moved precisely between existing items.
  • Multi-workspace management for users handling several projects simultaneously.
  • Secure token handling that prevents sensitive credentials from leaking into chat logs or repository files.
  • Intelligent error handling for rate limits and read-only workspace restrictions.
