What is AdaptiveTest?

AdaptiveTest is a sophisticated engine designed for high-stakes and formative assessments. By leveraging Item Response Theory (IRT 2PL/3PL) and Computerized Adaptive Testing (CAT), it reduces the number of questions needed to accurately measure a student's ability. This skill integrates seamlessly with Openclaw Skills to allow developers to build intelligent educational platforms.

Beyond simple testing, it utilizes AI to generate standards-aligned questions and provides deep psychometric calibration for test items. Whether you are building a new learning management system or enhancing an existing one, this tool provides the infrastructure for personalized academic growth and precise measurement.

AdaptiveTest Use Cases

  • Implementing computerized adaptive testing to optimize assessment duration and precision.
  • Generating high-quality assessment items using AI based on specific academic standards and difficulty levels.
  • Automating student and class management with OneRoster 1.2 compatibility for SIS integration.
  • Analyzing student mastery and delivering data-driven learning recommendations based on performance history.
  • Calibrating item difficulty and discrimination parameters using real-world response data.

How AdaptiveTest Works

  1. Initialize a test object and enable Computerized Adaptive Testing (CAT) settings to allow for dynamic item selection.
  2. Populate the test bank with manually created items or AI-generated questions via the standards-aligned generation endpoint.
  3. Launch an adaptive session for a student, where the engine selects the next best item based on maximum Fisher information.
  4. Submit student responses in real-time to update ability estimates using IRT 2PL or 3PL models.
  5. Terminate the session automatically once the standard error threshold is met or the maximum item count is reached.
  6. Review comprehensive analytics and generate personalized learning recommendations tailored to the student's unique ability profile.

AdaptiveTest Setup

To begin using this tool with Openclaw Skills, ensure you have an active API key and the necessary system binaries.

  • Install the required binary dependency: curl.
  • Configure your environment variable with your unique API key:
export ADAPTIVETEST_API_KEY="your_api_key_here"
  • All requests are directed to the production base URL: https://adaptivetest-platform-production.up.railway.app/api.

AdaptiveTest Data Schema & Taxonomy

The skill organizes assessment data using standardized psychometric and educational formats:

Entity Description
Test Entities Managed via UUIDs, containing configuration for CAT and IRT models.
IRT Parameters Items store difficulty (b), discrimination (a), and guessing (c) parameters.
Session Records Tracks real-time ability estimates (theta) and standard error metrics.
Student Data Compatible with OneRoster 1.2 fields for seamless SIS integration.
AI Content Questions are generated in QTI 3.0-compatible formats with rationales.

AdaptiveTest Advanced Features

  • Professional-grade IRT calibration using 2PL and 3PL models for precise item parameter estimation.
  • Automated AI question generation supporting specific academic standards like CCSS.
  • Deep learning recommendation engine that synthesizes assessment history into actionable plans.
  • SIS-ready integration following OneRoster 1.2 standards for institutional deployments.
  • Real-time ability estimation (theta) that updates after every student response for maximum accuracy.
