What is Anime Discovery?

Anime Discovery is a CLI skill for finding anime information and viewing options without using a browser to search metadata. It queries the public AniList GraphQL API for titles, descriptions, genres, scores, and legal streaming links, and uses Anikoto for recent releases, episode lists, and available streaming URLs.

For Openclaw Skills users, it brings anime search, discovery, and streaming information into an actionable workflow: look up a title, review its details, and follow available viewing links. It can also find recent anime uploads from the official Muse Asia and AniOne Asia YouTube channels.

Anime Discovery Use Cases

  • Search for an anime by title and review its synopsis, genres, score, and AniList ID.
  • Browse trending, popular, or recently updated anime when choosing what to watch.
  • Discover a random anime or narrow a random pick by genre.
  • Look up episode lists and available streaming links for a specific anime.
  • Find legal streaming options listed by AniList, such as Crunchyroll when available.
  • Check recent uploads from Muse Asia or AniOne Asia, including links that can play inline in Telegram.
  • Use JSON output to pass search results to another script or workflow.

How Anime Discovery Works

  1. Choose a command based on the task: search, trending, popular, detail, recent, random, or youtube.
  2. For title-based discovery, query AniList to find matching anime and retrieve its AniList ID.
  3. Request details using the AniList ID to view metadata and, when requested, episode information from Anikoto.
  4. Review available viewing options, which may include AniList-listed legal services, Anikoto streaming URLs, or official YouTube uploads.
  5. Read the default Telegram-friendly Markdown output, or add --json when machine-readable results are needed.

Anime Discovery Setup

The skill documentation provides commands for running anime.py from ~/.qclaw-oversea/skills/anime-discovery/. It does not specify a separate package installation step or runtime dependency list. The documented AniList and Anikoto APIs do not require API keys.

Run commands with Python 3 from a shell:

python3 ~/.qclaw-oversea/skills/anime-discovery/anime.py search "Naruto"
python3 ~/.qclaw-oversea/skills/anime-discovery/anime.py trending --page 1 --limit 10
python3 ~/.qclaw-oversea/skills/anime-discovery/anime.py detail 21 --episodes
python3 ~/.qclaw-oversea/skills/anime-discovery/anime.py youtube --channel muse --limit 5

Use --json for machine-readable output, for example:

python3 ~/.qclaw-oversea/skills/anime-discovery/anime.py search "One Piece" --json

Anime Discovery Data Schema & Taxonomy

The skill retrieves data from remote APIs and formats results for display; the documentation does not describe local databases, generated files, or persistent storage.
