What is APort Status?

The APort Status skill functions like a git status command for an AI agent's identity and accountability state. It enables agents to self-reflect on their verified standing, understanding exactly what actions they are authorized to perform and what their deliverable contracts require for successful task completion. By integrating this within the Openclaw Skills ecosystem, developers can ensure their agents maintain a high level of transparency and operational integrity.

This skill creates a layer of accountability that is essential for complex workflows, ensuring that both the agent and the human user are aligned on operational limits. It allows agents to verify their own assurance levels and identity credentials in real-time, making it a cornerstone for secure and verifiable agentic operations.

APort Status Use Cases

  • Orienting an agent at the start of a session to understand its permissions.
  • Responding to user inquiries about specific agent limitations or functional boundaries.
  • Verifying authorized capabilities before attempting restricted actions like repository merges.
  • Debugging task denials or identifying required assurance level upgrades.
  • Presenting a verified identity and audit trail to end-users for trust and safety.

How APort Status Works

  1. The skill retrieves the unique APORT_AGENT_ID from the agent's environment variables.
  2. It fetches the latest agent passport data via the APort API or the APort slug proxy.
  3. The skill queries the verification endpoint to retrieve a history of recent decisions and activity logs.
  4. It aggregates this data into a structured status report covering identity, capabilities, and deliverable contracts.
  5. The skill analyzes the results to flag critical issues such as suspended passports, unclaimed ownership, or repetitive denials.

APort Status Setup

To use this skill, you must have an APORT_AGENT_ID configured in your environment. If you have not created a passport yet, you can do so via the web or CLI.

# Create a new passport using the APort CLI
npx aport-id

Ensure your agent has HTTP access to the following endpoints:

  • GET https://aport.io/api/passports/{YOUR_AGENT_ID}
  • GET https://aport.io/api/verify/decisions/{YOUR_AGENT_ID}

APort Status Data Schema & Taxonomy

The skill organizes agent state data into several key metadata blocks to ensure clarity within Openclaw Skills environments:

Data Block Purpose Example Fields
Identity Core metadata Agent ID, Role, Model, Owner status
Status Operational state Active/Suspended status, Assurance Level (L0-L4)
Capabilities Permissions web.fetch, repo.merge, data.file.write
Contract Requirements Word counts, test requirements, scan patterns
Decisions Audit trail Decision ID, ALLOW/DENY status, Timestamps

APort Status Advanced Features

  • Compact Mode: Provides a low-token summary of status for efficient context window management.
  • Real-time Capability Auditing: Allows agents to answer user questions about their specific permissions dynamically.
  • Assurance Level Warnings: Automatically flags when a task requires a higher assurance level (e.g., L2+).
  • Deliverable Contract Enforcement: Highlights specific acceptance criteria that must be met before a task is considered complete.
  • Multi-Agent Support: Can be used to verify the standing of multiple agents within a coordinated Openclaw Skills workflow.
