What is Auto-Drive?

The Auto-Drive skill provides a bridge between AI agents and the Autonomys Network, offering permanent decentralized storage capabilities. By utilizing Openclaw Skills, this tool allows agents to upload files and data payloads that receive immutable Content Identifiers (CIDs), ensuring data persists beyond the lifecycle of a single session or server.

Beyond simple storage, the skill implements a sophisticated memory chain protocol. Every memory entry is stored as a JSON object pointing to the previous entry, creating a verifiable and permanent history. This architecture enables agent resurrection, where a new instance can rebuild its entire context and state just by knowing the most recent CID.

Auto-Drive Use Cases

  • Storing large datasets or reports permanently on a decentralized network.
  • Creating immutable checkpoints for AI agent states during complex tasks.
  • Reconstructing agent context and history after a system failure or migration.
  • Implementing transparent and auditable logs of agent decision-making processes using Openclaw Skills.

How Auto-Drive Works

  1. Configure the skill by providing an API key from the Autonomys Explorer.
  2. Upload files via the provided scripts to receive a permanent CID on the Autonomys mainnet.
  3. Save structured memories that automatically link to the previous CID, forming a persistent chain.
  4. Trigger the recall process to walk the linked list backwards and reconstruct the agent's historical state.

Auto-Drive Setup

To integrate this into your library of Openclaw Skills, run the setup script:

scripts/setup-auto-drive.sh

Ensure you have an AUTO_DRIVE_API_KEY from explorer.ai3.storage. You can set this as an environment variable or within your agent's configuration file. The skill also requires jq and curl to be installed on your system.

Auto-Drive Data Schema & Taxonomy

Data is managed through a JSON-based schema designed for the Autonomys Network:

Component Type Description
header.agentName String The name of the agent instance.
header.previousCid String Pointer to the previous CID in the memory chain.
data.type String Specifies the content type, such as 'memory'.
data.content String/JSON The actual payload or historical data.

A local state file tracks the current head of the chain (lastCid) and total chainLength for quick access.

Auto-Drive Advanced Features

  • Automatic ZLIB compression for efficient storage of large JSON payloads.
  • Seamless integration with MEMORY.md for real-time pinning of the latest CIDs in the workspace.
  • Fallback mechanisms for public gateway downloads when an API key is not present.
  • Multi-agent support with configurable agent names in memory headers.
