What is Orthogonal?

Orthogonal is a powerful infrastructure layer designed to give AI agents access to high-quality, premium APIs and curated workflows known as Openclaw Skills. By acting as a standardized interface, it allows developers to expand agent capabilities beyond simple text generation into complex actions like web scraping, data enrichment, and cross-platform automation.

The platform bridge the gap between raw API endpoints and intelligent agent execution by wrapping complex services into tested parameters and error-handled workflows. Whether you are using OpenClaw, Claude Code, or Cursor, Orthogonal ensures your agent interacts with external data and services with maximum reliability and minimum configuration overhead.

Orthogonal Use Cases

  • Enriching lead data by connecting to specialized search and business intelligence APIs.
  • Automating communication across platforms like Slack and Gmail using secure OAuth integrations.
  • Managing documents and spreadsheets in Google Drive, Sheets, and Notion through standardized agent actions.
  • Scaling agent capabilities dynamically by searching for and installing new Openclaw Skills on the fly.
  • Performing dry runs of API calls to estimate costs and validate parameters before execution.

How Orthogonal Works

  1. Skill Discovery: The agent first checks its local environment for existing Openclaw Skills that match the user's request.
  2. Registry Search: If no local skill is found, the agent uses the CLI to search the Orthogonal library for a dedicated workflow.
  3. API Fallback: If a specific skill doesn't exist, the agent searches the broader API marketplace for a raw endpoint.
  4. Parameter Validation: Before execution, the agent inspects the required schema using the show command to ensure accurate data mapping.
  5. Secure Execution: The agent executes the task via the Orthogonal proxy, handling authentication and usage tracking automatically.

Orthogonal Setup

Install the Orthogonal CLI globally to manage your Openclaw Skills and API connections:

npm install -g @orth/cli

Authenticate your environment with your unique API key:

orth login

Add the core discovery skills to your agent:

orth skills add orthogonal/find-skill
orth skills add orthogonal/find-api

Orthogonal Data Schema & Taxonomy

Orthogonal maintains a structured taxonomy for managing agent interactions and credentials.

Component Description Storage / Format
Credentials Stores API keys and session tokens ~/.config/orthogonal/credentials.json
Skill Registry Metadata for installed Openclaw Skills JSON/Markdown in agent skill directory
API Slugs Unique identifiers for marketplace services String (e.g., olostep, gmail)
Parameters Required input fields and data types Retrieved via orth api show

Orthogonal Advanced Features

  • Multi-agent support across different frameworks like Claude Code and Cursor.
  • OAuth-connected integrations for seamless access to private user data in Slack, GitHub, and Google Workspace.
  • Pay-per-use billing model with no monthly subscription overhead.
  • Dry-run capability to preview API costs and payload structures.
  • Dynamic skill installation allowing agents to self-evolve by adding new tools autonomously.
