What is Blinko?

The Blinko skill is a specialized integration designed to bridge the gap between your terminal and your personal knowledge management system. By leveraging the Blinko API, this skill allows users to interact with their notes and quick thoughts (blinkos) without leaving their development environment. As a key component of the Openclaw Skills library, it provides a structured way to capture information, organize ideas, and maintain a digital second brain through automated command-line workflows.

Whether you are documenting a quick code snippet or organizing long-form documentation, this skill offers the flexibility needed for modern developer workflows. It focuses on speed and efficiency, ensuring that your ideas are captured the moment they occur and are easily retrievable or promotable later.

Blinko Use Cases

  • Capturing fleeting thoughts or technical snippets as blinkos during active coding sessions.
  • Listing and searching through existing notes to reference project requirements or documentation.
  • Promoting temporary blinkos into permanent, long-form notes for structured knowledge retention.
  • Automating note creation via scripts to keep track of development milestones within the Openclaw Skills ecosystem.

How Blinko Works

  1. The skill initializes by reading the BLINKO_HOST and BLINKO_TOKEN from your local OS environment variables.
  2. When a trigger like "save blinko" is invoked, the Python-based client prepares a payload with your content.
  3. The script sends a request to the configured Blinko API note endpoints (typically /v1/note/).
  4. The API response is parsed and printed to stdout, confirming the creation, update, or deletion of the resource.
  5. Users can then use the unique ID of an entry to perform specific actions like promoting a blinko to a full note.

Blinko Setup

To get started with this skill in the Openclaw Skills framework, you must first set your environment variables:

export BLINKO_HOST=http://127.0.0.1:1111/api
export BLINKO_TOKEN=your_personal_access_token

Once configured, you can run various commands via the client script:

# List all your blinkos
python3 scripts/blinko_client.py list-blinkos

# Create a new note
python3 scripts/blinko_client.py upsert-note --content "Your detailed note content"

Blinko Data Schema & Taxonomy

The skill interacts with the Blinko API using the following data structure and environment configuration:

Variable Type Description
BLINKO_HOST URL The base URL for your Blinko API (Defaults to http://127.0.0.1:1111).
BLINKO_TOKEN String Your private API authentication token.
NOTE_ID UUID/String The unique identifier for a specific note or blinko entry.
content String The Markdown-formatted body text of your note.

All responses from the Openclaw Skills client are returned as JSON strings or status messages via stdout.

Blinko Advanced Features

  • Support for "Promote" functionality to transition short-form thoughts into permanent documentation.
  • Upsert capabilities that intelligently handle both creation and updates of notes.
  • Error handling via stderr with non-zero exit codes for integration into larger automation pipelines.
  • Native compatibility with self-hosted Blinko instances through custom host configuration.
