What is Book Report & Chat Kit Generator?

The book-report skill is a highly structured automated agent tool designed to help developers and avid readers quickly analyze literature and compile highly readable study guides. By utilizing this integration within the ecosystem of Openclaw Skills, users can input a book title (or author) and receive a dual-artifact package: a gorgeous, study-oriented HTML report and an actionable markdown-based Chat Bullet Bank (弹药库) for social conversations. This skill focuses on delivering highly credible, structured facts without hallucinating unverified details.

Optimized for popular Chinese classics, contemporary literature, and award-winning books, the tool streamlines the research process by programmatically scraping public metadata and synthesizing complex details, such as character relationships and narrative themes, into beautifully rendered visual flowcharts and templates.

Book Report & Chat Kit Generator Use Cases

  • Preparing a comprehensive book presentation, lecture, or study guide for others.
  • Building a personal literary repository or dynamic bullet bank of trivia and insights to enhance daily conversations.
  • Synthesizing detailed background summaries, character relationship maps, and core themes of award-winning literature.
  • Rapidly extracting structured reference materials about classic novels using standard, verified web registries.

How Book Report & Chat Kit Generator Works

  1. Multi-Source Web Scraping: The script lib/fetch.py executes parallel scraping across Wikipedia (zh), Baidu Baike, and Zhihu to gather comprehensive book metadata.
  2. Structured LLM Extraction: An LLM processes raw data to extract 9 fixed schema fields, standardizing critical details about authors, awards, and plots.
  3. Dual-Artifact Rendering: The pipeline utilizes Jinja2 templates (templates/report.html.j2 and templates/chat-kit.md.j2) via lib/render.py to compile the visual HTML report and markdown chat-kit.
  4. Automated Validation and Self-Check: The workflow opens the HTML file to ensure Mermaid diagrams render correctly and strips away any unverified metrics or guessed numbers.
  5. File Delivery: The user receives paths to both files: an HTML document for in-depth studying and a markdown bullet bank for social engagement.

Book Report & Chat Kit Generator Setup

To run this book-report pipeline using Openclaw Skills, ensure you have Python and your LLM environment configured. Execute the following commands in your CLI:

# Navigate to your skill directory
cd skills/book-report

# Install necessary Python dependencies
pip install -r requirements.txt

# Generate a book report and chat kit
python main.py --book "三体" --author "刘慈欣"

Make sure your API keys for web scraping fallback and LLM extraction are correctly set up in your environment variables.

Book Report & Chat Kit Generator Data Schema & Taxonomy

Output Directory Structure

All generated assets are organized under the local reports/ directory:

File Path Format Description
reports/<book_name>-<date>.html HTML Self-study report styled with responsive templates and visual Mermaid diagrams.
reports/chat-弹药库-<book_name>-v1.md Markdown A structured chat kit consisting of opening lines, narrative hooks, and follow-up Q&As.

Fixed Schema Extraction Fields (9 Fields)

The LLM processes raw source text to populate a strict dictionary schema containing:

  1. book_title: Title of the book.
  2. book_summary: A concise, one-sentence summary.
  3. theme: Core themes paired with main chapter summaries.
  4. characters: 4-10 major characters and descriptions.
  5. relationships: A Mermaid.js flowchart mapping the relationships.
  6. awards: Verified awards, years, and official review comments.
  7. author: Author background, biography, and writing motivations.
  8. other_works: Categorized lists of other titles by the same author.
  9. quotes: 5-10 iconic quotes (must be marked with a "not verified with original text" warning).

Book Report & Chat Kit Generator Advanced Features

  • Conservative Information Filtering: Strict "non-display" principle deletes unverified episode numbers, actor names, sales statistics, or raw numbers, substituting them with vague phrasing unless 100% verified.
  • Mermaid Graph Auto-Splitting: If a character relationship graph contains more than 25 nodes, it automatically splits the visualization into two readable charts.
  • Dynamic Chat Bullet Bank Formatting: Generates social conversational blocks including counter-intuitive openings, 6 narrative rhythm stories, and 5 interactive counter-questions.
  • Fail-safe Dual-Source Fallback: Seamlessly switches to double-source ingestion (Baidu Baike + Zhihu) if Wikipedia returns no entries, keeping the Openclaw Skills pipeline active and robust.
