What is Bookify?

The Bookify skill is a robust utility designed to bridge the gap between simple text files and professional publishing formats. By utilizing the md-bookify engine, this skill allows users to generate high-quality PDF and EPUB files directly from Markdown content. It is a vital component of Openclaw Skills for developers who need to produce clean, readable documentation, reports, or digital books without manual formatting.

Whether you are preparing a technical whitepaper or a full-length digital novel, Bookify handles the heavy lifting of layout, syntax highlighting, and mathematical notation rendering. Its integration into the Openclaw Skills ecosystem ensures that your automated workflows can produce polished deliverables in seconds.

Bookify Use Cases

  • Creating professional PDF reports from project README files.
  • Converting technical documentation into EPUB ebooks for offline reading on mobile devices.
  • Generating high-contrast documents specifically styled for e-ink displays.
  • Automating the production of manuals with custom corporate branding via CSS.

How Bookify Works

  1. The skill analyzes the provided arguments to identify the source Markdown file and the target format (PDF or EPUB).
  2. If no file is specified, it uses Glob to search the directory for available markdown files.
  3. It applies specified metadata such as author names, titles, and publisher information to the document headers.
  4. For PDF output, it injects chosen styles (like elegant or serif) or custom CSS to format the typography and layout.
  5. The md-bookify package processes the Markdown, rendering GFM, code blocks, and KaTeX math.
  6. A final document is generated and saved to the local file system.

Bookify Setup

To use this within your Openclaw Skills environment, ensure you are running Node.js version 20 or higher. You must also ensure Chromium is available for the PDF rendering engine.

npx puppeteer@24 browsers install chrome
