What is BrowserStack?

BrowserStack is a premier cloud platform for web and mobile testing, enabling developers to verify application performance across thousands of real browser and device combinations. This integration for Openclaw Skills provides a unified interface to manage testing infrastructure without the overhead of maintaining local device labs. By leveraging the Membrane CLI, it simplifies the authentication process and offers high-level actions for build management, session tracking, and log retrieval.

This skill is designed to handle the complexity of testing workflows, providing secure credential management and streamlined API access. Whether you are testing responsive web designs or complex mobile applications, this tool ensures your testing pipeline is robust and scalable within an AI-driven development environment.

BrowserStack Use Cases

  • Automating cross-browser testing for web applications across diverse OS and browser versions.
  • Uploading APK or IPA files for mobile app testing on a wide range of real Android and iOS devices.
  • Monitoring test execution by retrieving real-time Appium, network, and device logs.
  • Managing test projects and build life cycles directly within a continuous integration pipeline.
  • Updating session statuses and organizing testing metadata programmatically via Openclaw Skills.

How BrowserStack Works

  1. Install the Membrane CLI to provide a bridge between your local environment and the BrowserStack platform.
  2. Authenticate the AI agent using the login command to establish secure, tenant-based credentials.
  3. Establish a connection to the BrowserStack domain to initiate the specific service integration.
  4. Poll the connection status until it reaches the READY state, handling any interactive client actions if required.
  5. Discover available functionality by searching for actions based on natural language intent.
  6. Execute test builds, manage mobile sessions, or proxy custom API requests for advanced automation needs.

BrowserStack Setup

To get started with this skill, install the Membrane CLI and authenticate your account using the following commands:

npm install -g @membranehq/cli@latest
membrane login --tenant --clientName=openclaw

After logging in, establish a secure connection to BrowserStack:

membrane connection ensure "https://www.browserstack.com/" --json

If the connection state returns as BUILDING, poll for readiness using the connection ID:

npx @membranehq/cli connection get <id> --wait --json

BrowserStack Data Schema & Taxonomy

The skill organizes testing data through a hierarchical structure of Projects, Builds, and Sessions to maintain clarity in large-scale testing environments.

Entity Description
Projects High-level containers used for organizing related test suites and teams.
Builds Specific groups of test sessions executed during a single CI/CD run.
Sessions Individual test instances targeting specific device or browser configurations.
Logs Comprehensive data including Appium, Network (HAR), and raw device logs.
Apps Binary assets (APK/IPA) uploaded to the BrowserStack cloud for automated testing.

BrowserStack Advanced Features

  • Automated credential management and transparent token refresh via the Membrane architecture.
  • Optimized tooling support specifically for Openclaw Skills and other AI coding agents.
  • Transparent API proxying to access specialized BrowserStack endpoints not covered by standard actions.
  • Long-polling capabilities for asynchronous connection states and build processing.
  • Native support for machine-readable JSON output to facilitate complex multi-agent workflows.
