What is Callingly?

Callingly is a high-performance sales engagement platform designed to automate outbound calling and lead follow-up, ensuring sales teams never miss a prospect. By integrating this capability into Openclaw Skills, developers can empower AI agents to programmatically initiate calls, send SMS notifications, and manage lead records without manual intervention.

Built on the Membrane framework, this skill abstracts the complexities of API authentication and credential management. It provides a secure, server-side environment where agents can interact with the Callingly API through pre-built actions or direct proxy requests, making it an essential tool for scaling sales operations and improving conversion rates.

Callingly Use Cases

  • Automatically initiating outbound calls to new leads generated from web forms.
  • Sending follow-up SMS messages to prospects after a missed call event.
  • Syncing lead data between Callingly and internal CRM systems.
  • Managing team availability and agent schedules to optimize call routing.
  • Creating webhooks to trigger automated workflows based on real-time call results.

How Callingly Works

  1. The AI agent initializes the Membrane environment and authenticates the user's tenant.
  2. A secure connection to Callingly is established using a normalized domain matching system.
  3. The agent searches for specific actions (like create-call or list-leads) based on the user's natural language intent.
  4. Membrane handles the OAuth or API key handshake server-side, ensuring no secrets are exposed locally.
  5. The agent executes the desired action, and Membrane processes the request, handling pagination and error mapping automatically.
  6. For custom requirements, the agent uses the Membrane proxy to send authenticated requests directly to Callingly endpoints.

Callingly Setup

First, install the Membrane CLI to enable Openclaw Skills integration:

npm install -g @membranehq/cli@latest

Next, authenticate your agent (specify openclaw as the client name):

membrane login --tenant --clientName=openclaw

Establish a connection to the Callingly service:

membrane connection ensure "https://callingly.com/" --json

If the connection state is BUILDING, poll until it reaches READY:

npx @membranehq/cli connection get <id> --wait --json

Callingly Data Schema & Taxonomy

The Callingly skill organizes data around four primary entities, accessible via standard Openclaw Skills patterns:

Entity Description
Lead Represents prospective customers, including contact details and status.
Call Records of outbound/inbound attempts, including durations and results.
User Data regarding sales agents, including their schedules and team assignments.
Webhook Configuration for real-time event notifications (e.g., call-completed).

All actions return structured JSON output, following the outputSchema defined in the Membrane action registry.

Callingly Advanced Features

  • Natural Language Action Discovery: Use the intent flag to find the most relevant API actions without browsing documentation.
  • Automated Credential Refresh: Transparent handling of token expiration via Membrane's server-side auth layer.
  • Direct API Proxying: Execute raw HTTP methods (GET, POST, etc.) while retaining automatic header injection and base URL normalization.
  • Multi-Agent Support: Tailored tooling adjustments for various agent types including openclaw, claude, and codex.
  • Long-Polling Connections: Built-in support for waiting on asynchronous connection states and client-side actions.
