What is CartQL?

CartQL is a specialized GraphQL-based shopping cart platform designed to streamline e-commerce operations for developers. By leveraging this integration within the Openclaw Skills ecosystem, developers can programmatically manage cart life cycles, handle complex product data, and automate shopping workflows without the overhead of manual authentication management.

This skill provides a unified interface to interact with shopping cart functionality through the Membrane framework, making it an essential tool for building AI-driven commerce agents. It handles the heavy lifting of API plumbing, allowing you to focus on building sophisticated retail logic and seamless customer experiences.

CartQL Use Cases

  • Automating the creation and management of customer shopping carts during AI-assisted chat sessions.
  • Synchronizing product data and cart items across different web platforms using Openclaw Skills.
  • Orchestrating complex e-commerce workflows that require real-time updates to shopping cart contents.
  • Building custom checkout experiences by querying GraphQL-based product catalogs directly via an agent.

How CartQL Works

  1. Initialize the environment by installing the Membrane CLI and authenticating using your specific agent profile.
  2. Establish a persistent connection to the CartQL domain, which allows Membrane to handle OAuth and token refreshes server-side.
  3. Discover available GraphQL actions by searching with natural language intents to find the most efficient operation for your task.
  4. Execute specific actions to add items to carts, update quantities, or fetch detailed product information.
  5. Utilize the proxy request feature for advanced or custom GraphQL queries that require direct access to the API endpoints while maintaining secure authentication.

CartQL Setup

First, install the necessary CLI tool and authenticate your session:

npm install -g @membranehq/cli@latest
membrane login --tenant --clientName=openclaw

Next, ensure a connection to the CartQL service is active:

membrane connection ensure "https://cartql.com/" --json

If the connection state is BUILDING, poll for readiness:

membrane connection get <id> --wait --json

CartQL Data Schema & Taxonomy

The skill organizes data around the core e-commerce entities supported by the CartQL GraphQL API:

Object Description
Cart The root container for a shopping session, holding all session-related metadata.
Cart Items Specific product entries within a cart, including SKU, quantity, and price data.
Product Detailed catalog information used to populate carts and provide user information.
Action Metadata Defines the inputSchema and outputSchema for every available GraphQL operation.

CartQL Advanced Features

  • Server-side credential management that eliminates the need to handle local API keys within Openclaw Skills.
  • Natural language action discovery that maps user intent to specific GraphQL mutations and queries.
  • Transparent API proxying with automatic header injection and credential refresh for custom endpoints.
  • Support for headless environments with asynchronous authorization URL generation and verification.
