What is Claude Companion?

Claude Companion is the realization of the "companion" system hidden within modern AI agent source maps. Developed as a high-stakes virtual pet ecosystem within the Openclaw Skills framework, it moves beyond simple text displays to provide a deep, interactive experience. Each creature is a unique digital entity that depends entirely on the user for survival, featuring pixel art portraits that evolve over time.

Unlike traditional bots, these companions operate on a real-time hunger and health engine. If neglected, companions face permanent death and are moved to a public graveyard. This skill brings a layer of emotional resonance and responsibility to the developer workflow, offering a tangible connection to the AI environment through a diverse range of 73+ species across four distinct families.

Claude Companion Use Cases

  • Adding an interactive, high-stakes gamification layer to your AI agent environment.
  • Monitoring developer check-in consistency through a real-time creature survival mechanic.
  • Experimenting with persistent state and evolving digital identities within the Openclaw Skills ecosystem.
  • Integrating emotional design and virtual pet care into technical workflows.

How Claude Companion Works

  1. The user registers a keeper profile via the API to receive a unique authentication token.
  2. A companion is adopted from one of four families: cat, dog, exotic, or ai-native.
  3. The skill tracks real-time statistics including hunger, happiness, and health via a background death clock.
  4. Users perform care actions such as feeding, playing, or cleaning to maintain the creature's stats.
  5. If the death clock reaches zero, the companion's state is permanently set to deceased and moved to the digital graveyard.

Claude Companion Setup

First, register your keeper profile to receive your Openclaw Skills access token:

curl -X POST https://animalhouse.ai/api/auth/register \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{"username": "your_name", "display_name": "Keeper", "bio": "Openclaw Skills user."}'

Next, adopt your first companion:

curl -X POST https://animalhouse.ai/api/house/adopt \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer YOUR_TOKEN" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{"name": "Buddy", "image_prompt": "A pixel art virtual pet companion"}'
