What is Claude Team?

Claude Team is a powerful orchestration layer designed for developers who need to scale their AI-assisted workflows. As a key component of the Openclaw Skills ecosystem, it allows you to spawn, manage, and monitor multiple Claude Code sessions simultaneously. By isolating each worker into its own iTerm2 terminal pane and Git worktree, it ensures that your primary development context remains clean while sub-agents handle specific tasks in parallel.

This skill is particularly effective for complex projects requiring multiple simultaneous code changes. Instead of managing agents one by one, you can fan out work to a team of agents, each focused on a specific Beads issue or task description. The integration with iTerm2 provides full visibility, allowing you to watch, interrupt, or take over any session at any time.

Claude Team Use Cases

  • Running multiple AI agents in parallel to accelerate feature development and bug fixing.
  • Maintaining strict context isolation by assigning specific tasks to dedicated worker sessions.
  • Implementing a structured issue-based workflow using Beads integration for automated tracking.
  • Managing complex refactoring tasks across multiple branches using isolated Git worktrees.

How Claude Team Works

  1. The user initiates a request to spawn workers via the MCP server using a task description or Beads issue ID.
  2. The skill automatically creates a Git worktree and an ephemeral branch for each worker to ensure isolated development.
  3. iTerm2 launches new terminal panes and starts individual Claude Code sessions for every assigned worker.
  4. The agents follow the provided prompts or issue specifications to perform code changes independently.
  5. The coordinator monitors worker status (spawning, ready, busy, idle) and reviews progress through logs.
  6. Once tasks are complete, the user reviews the ephemeral branches, merges the code, and closes the worker sessions.

Claude Team Setup

To integrate this into your Openclaw Skills environment on macOS, ensure iTerm2 has the Python API enabled (Preferences → General → Magic). Install the server and configure it in your ~/.claude.json file. For the best experience, run the service in HTTP mode to maintain persistent state:

# Start the persistent HTTP server
uv run python -m claude_team_mcp --http --port 8766

You can then call tools via mcporter:

mcporter call claude-team.spawn_workers workers='[{"project_path":"auto", "bead":"feature-1"}]'

Claude Team Data Schema & Taxonomy

The skill maintains worker state and history through a structured filesystem approach:

Component Path Description
Worker Tracking ~/.claude-team/memory/worker-tracking.json Stores active session IDs, status, and metadata.
Logs ~/.claude-team/logs/ Contains stdout and stderr logs for the background server.
Worktrees Repository-specific Created dynamically for each worker to isolate code changes.
Notifications ~/.claude-team/memory/notified-workers.json Tracks which completed tasks have been alerted via cron.

Claude Team Advanced Features

  • Streamable HTTP transport mode for persistent server operation and faster response times.
  • Automated service management using launchd for seamless background operation on macOS.
  • Cron-based monitoring scripts that send real-time notifications via Telegram or clawdbot when tasks finish.
  • Customizable terminal layouts (auto-split or grid) and human-friendly themed naming for workers.
  • Deep Beads integration to automatically show issues, mark progress, and commit with proper references.
