What is ClawKeep?

ClawKeep is an essential tool for developers and AI agents designed to provide absolute state recoverability. By leveraging Git-powered logic, it allows you to track every modification in your workspace, ensuring that no bad memory update, corrupted configuration, or accidental file deletion is permanent. It serves as a safety net for Openclaw Skills, allowing users to move fast without the fear of breaking their environment.

The skill provides both automated and manual snapshot capabilities, ensuring your project history is always preserved. With a built-in web dashboard and support for AES-256-GCM encrypted off-site backups, ClawKeep combines the simplicity of local versioning with the security of professional cloud-scale infrastructure.

ClawKeep Use Cases

  • Recovering from accidental file deletions or corrupted workspace configurations.
  • Reverting bad AI-generated code or automated memory updates to a known good state.
  • Maintaining a granular timeline of project changes without manual Git commits.
  • Creating encrypted off-site backups to S3, R2, or local NAS targets.
  • Auditing workspace changes through a visual web dashboard and side-by-side diffs.

How ClawKeep Works

  1. Initialize the workspace to create configuration files and the initial snapshot.
  2. Start the watch daemon to automatically detect and commit file changes at specified intervals.
  3. Create manual snapshots before performing risky operations or major architectural changes.
  4. Browse the version history via CLI or the web dashboard to identify recovery points.
  5. Restore the workspace to a specific hash or previous state, which is handled as a non-destructive new commit.
  6. Optionally export snapshots to encrypted cloud targets for disaster recovery.

ClawKeep Setup

First, install the package globally using npm:

npm install -g clawkeep

Navigate to your project directory and initialize the environment:

cd /path/to/your/workspace
clawkeep init

To enable automatic background backups, start the watch daemon:

clawkeep watch --daemon -d /path/to/workspace --interval 10000

ClawKeep Data Schema & Taxonomy

ClawKeep organizes its metadata and tracking information within the root directory of your project. Below is the structure of the primary data components:

Component Description
.clawkeep/config.json Contains minimal configuration settings for the local workspace.
.clawkeepignore Defines patterns for files and directories (like node_modules or logs) to skip.
.gitignore Automatically synchronized from .clawkeepignore to maintain consistency.
Snapshot History Git-powered internal storage representing the state of files at specific timestamps.
.enc Files AES-256-GCM encrypted chunk files generated during off-site exports to ensure data privacy.

ClawKeep Advanced Features

  • Background Watch Daemon with configurable debounce intervals to prevent commit spam.
  • Web-based Dashboard featuring a visual timeline, file browser, and side-by-side diffs.
  • AES-256-GCM Encryption for all external backup targets including S3, R2, and local drives.
  • Non-destructive Restoration that checks out old states and commits them as new snapshots.
  • Multi-target Cloud Support for managed zero-knowledge backups via Openclaw Skills integrations.
  • Token-based Authentication automatically generated for secure access to the web UI.
