What is ClawSeal?

ClawSeal is a specialized cryptographic memory layer designed to give AI agents a persistent and verifiable way to store information. By utilizing QSEAL technology based on HMAC-SHA256, it ensures that every piece of data—whether it is a user preference or a critical factual insight—is signed and protected against unauthorized modification. This is an essential addition to the library of Openclaw Skills for developers who prioritize data integrity and security in their agentic workflows.

Unlike traditional database-heavy solutions, ClawSeal uses a zero-dependency approach, storing data in scroll-native YAML files. This makes the memory system exceptionally lightweight, Git-friendly, and easy to audit. It offers a seamless transition from a zero-config demo mode for rapid prototyping to a hardened production environment using environment-controlled secrets.

ClawSeal Use Cases

  • Persisting user preferences across multiple conversation sessions with cryptographic certainty.
  • Storing factual insights and technical data that must remain untampered for compliance.
  • Building audit trails for agent decisions where integrity is a core requirement.
  • Maintaining long-term user relationship data that can be verified upon every retrieval.

How ClawSeal Works

  1. The AI agent sends content to the storage tool which triggers a cryptographic signing process.
  2. ClawSeal generates a unique signature using HMAC-SHA256 and stores the entry in a local YAML file.
  3. When the agent needs to recall information, it queries the memory bank via the recall tool.
  4. Every retrieved memory undergoes a verification check against the stored signature and the system secret.
  5. The system returns the verified content to the agent, or alerts the agent if any tampering is detected in the underlying files.

ClawSeal Setup

To get started with this memory system, you can install it directly through the plugin manager or manually via CLI. This is a powerful addition to your collection of Openclaw Skills.

# Automatic installation
openclaw plugins install clawseal

# Manual installation via pip
pip install clawseal

# Verify the installation
clawseal verify

# Start the cryptographic memory server
python3 -m clawseal_openclaw.server

ClawSeal Data Schema & Taxonomy

ClawSeal organizes its memory in a structured format that prioritizes both human readability and machine verification.

Attribute Description
memory_id A unique identifier for the stored fact (e.g., MEM_20260415_abc123).
content The string content representing the memory itself.
memory_type Categorization such as preference, fact, insight, or decision.
qseal_signature The HMAC-SHA256 hash ensuring the integrity of the data.
qseal_verified A boolean flag indicating if the memory passed integrity checks during the current session.

ClawSeal Advanced Features

  • Production Mode: Enhance security by transitioning from local demo secrets to robust environment-managed secret keys.
  • Tamper-Evident Rejection: Automatically isolates and rejects specific corrupted memories while keeping the rest of the memory bank functional.
  • Zero-Config Prototyping: Features an auto-generated local secret for immediate use without complex setup procedures.
  • Git-Friendly Storage: Designed for portability, allowing you to version control your agent's memory using standard repository tools alongside other Openclaw Skills.
