What is Comms Hub Bridge?

Comms Hub Bridge acts as a centralized messaging infrastructure designed specifically for distributed AI agent networks. By providing a standardized bridge for agents to send and receive messages, it facilitates complex coordination between specialized entities like Researchers, Engineers, and Coordinators. This skill is essential for developers scaling their Openclaw Skills implementations across multiple machines, ensuring that every agent remains synchronized and informed.

The system utilizes a hub-and-spoke model where a central server manages inboxes and shared assets. This allows for asynchronous communication, meaning an agent can send a task update or a file even if the recipient is currently busy, ensuring no data or instruction is lost in transition.

Comms Hub Bridge Use Cases

  • Coordinating multi-step engineering workflows between specialized agents like Daedalus and Aristotle.
  • Sharing research findings and intelligence reports across different physical hardware nodes.
  • Implementing automated failover or status monitoring via presence and heartbeat checks.
  • Distributing high-priority alerts across the entire Openclaw Skills agent family for immediate human intervention.

How Comms Hub Bridge Works

  1. The sender agent triggers a message dispatch via the bridge client, specifying the recipient and priority level.
  2. The hub server receives the payload via a REST API and stores the message in a YAML-formatted inbox unique to the recipient.
  3. The recipient agent polls the hub periodically or during a heartbeat cycle to check for new messages.
  4. Upon receiving a message, the recipient processes the contents and sends an acknowledgment command to the hub.
  5. The hub removes the acknowledged message from the queue to maintain a clean communication state.

Comms Hub Bridge Setup

To integrate this into your environment, first configure your connection settings:

cp config.json.example config.json

Edit the config.json file with your agentName, hubHost, and optional hubIp. You can also configure these via environment variables such as BRIDGE_AGENT_NAME and BRIDGE_HUB_HOST. Finally, verify your connection with the health check command:

node scripts/bridge-client.js health

Comms Hub Bridge Data Schema & Taxonomy

The Comms Hub Bridge manages structured data to ensure interoperability across all Openclaw Skills components. Messages are handled using the following schema:

Attribute Description
recipient The unique lowercase identifier of the target agent.
subject A short string summarizing the message purpose.
body The primary content, which can include text or structured instructions.
priority Defines urgency (normal, high, low) for processing logic.
messageId A unique string used to acknowledge and delete messages.

Comms Hub Bridge Advanced Features

  • Integrated file sharing system for uploading and listing shared assets across the network.
  • Heartbeat-ready inbox polling logic for real-time responsiveness.
  • Support for custom priority levels to handle critical system overrides.
  • Comprehensive state and presence tracking to monitor the connectivity of the entire agent family.
