What is Confluence?

The Confluence skill enables AI agents to interact directly with Atlassian Confluence via the confluence-cli. This integration allows users to bridge the gap between their development environment and corporate knowledge bases. By utilizing Openclaw Skills, developers can programmatically retrieve documentation, manage page hierarchies, and update content without leaving their terminal or agent interface. It is an essential tool for maintaining high-quality, synchronized documentation across engineering teams.

This skill transforms Confluence from a static repository into an active part of your development lifecycle. Whether you are searching for specific technical specs or automating the generation of release notes, this integration ensures that your team's knowledge is always at your agent's fingertips.

Confluence Use Cases

  • Retrieving technical specifications or deployment guides during the coding process.
  • Automatically generating sprint summaries or child pages for project tracking.
  • Updating existing wiki pages with updated API documentation or architectural diagrams.
  • Exporting entire pages with attachments for local backup or review.
  • Exploring Confluence spaces to find relevant cross-team documentation.

How Confluence Works

  1. The skill acts as a wrapper for the confluence-cli, translating user or agent requests into specific CLI commands.
  2. Commands are authenticated using a pre-configured Atlassian API token and domain settings stored in the user environment.
  3. The agent searches for content or unique page IDs using specialized commands like find and search to navigate the documentation tree.
  4. Page management is performed by sending body content or local files to the Atlassian API via the CLI interface.
  5. Structured data, such as page metadata or space lists, is returned to the agent to inform further actions or provide context to the developer.

Confluence Setup

To start using this integration with Openclaw Skills, perform the following steps:

  1. Install the CLI tool globally:
npm install -g confluence-cli
  1. Generate an Atlassian API token by visiting your Atlassian Security settings at https://id.atlassian.com/manage-profile/security/api-tokens.

  2. Initialize the configuration with your account details:

confluence init

Input your domain (e.g., yourcompany.atlassian.net), your registered email, and the API token you just created.

  1. Verify the installation by listing your current spaces:
confluence spaces

Confluence Data Schema & Taxonomy

Data Component Description
Config Path System path located at ~/.confluence-cli/config.json
Page ID The numeric identifier found in Confluence URLs, used for reading and updates
Storage Format HTML-like XML structure used by Confluence for internal page storage
Space Key The unique uppercase string identifier for a specific wiki space
CLI Metadata Information regarding page hierarchy, child pages, and attachment metadata

Confluence Advanced Features

  • Create complex documentation hierarchies with parent-child relationships programmatically.
  • Utilize the --format storage flag to upload content with full Confluence layout and macro support.
  • Export full pages including all associated attachments directly to your local file system for processing.
  • Perform deep search queries to locate pages by title or content keywords across all accessible spaces.
  • Integrate with other Openclaw Skills to automate multi-step documentation and engineering management tasks.
