What is Confluent?

The Confluent integration provides a robust interface for AI agents to interact with the Confluent data streaming platform. By utilizing these Openclaw Skills, developers can automate the management of Kafka clusters, organizations, and environments without the overhead of manual authentication plumbing. This skill acts as a bridge between high-level agent intents and the technical complexities of real-time data infrastructure.

Built on the Membrane ecosystem, the skill handles the full credential lifecycle, including secure token storage and transparent refreshes. This allows agents to perform complex operations like topic configuration, record production, and ACL management safely and efficiently. Whether you are building monitoring tools or automated data pipelines, this skill ensures a developer-friendly experience with minimal boilerplate.

Confluent Use Cases

  • Automating the creation and configuration of Kafka topics during application deployment.
  • Real-time monitoring and listing of Kafka clusters and consumer group statuses.
  • Dynamic adjustment of topic partition counts based on system load or scaling requirements.
  • Programmatic production of records to topics for testing or automated event triggers.
  • Managing security policies and Access Control Lists (ACLs) across multiple environments.

How Confluent Works

  1. The user installs the Membrane CLI and authenticates the agent environment using a specialized login command.
  2. A connection to Confluent is established via a normalized domain check, which handles the initial OAuth or API key handshake.
  3. The agent polls the connection status, responding to any CLIENT_ACTION_REQUIRED triggers such as browser-based authentication.
  4. Once the connection is READY, the agent searches for specific actions based on natural language intent (e.g., "List all active clusters").
  5. The agent executes the chosen action or sends a direct proxy request to the Confluent API, with Membrane automatically injecting the required headers and tokens.

Confluent Setup

To integrate Confluent into your Openclaw Skills workflow, first install the required CLI:

npm install -g @membranehq/cli@latest

Log in and specify your agent type:

membrane login --tenant --clientName=openclaw

Ensure a connection is active for the Confluent domain:

membrane connection ensure "https://www.confluent.io/" --json

If the connection is in a building state, use the wait flag to stay updated:

membrane connection get <id> --wait --json

Confluent Data Schema & Taxonomy

The skill organizes Confluent metadata into a structured hierarchy for easy agent consumption:

Object Category Key Components
Infrastructure Clusters, Brokers, Partitions, and Kafka Connectors.
Governance Organizations, Environments, Service Accounts, and Users.
Data Topics (Configs, Offsets) and Individual Records.
Security Access Control Lists (ACLs) and authentication state metadata.

All API responses are formatted as machine-readable JSON to support automated parsing and logical branching in agent workflows.

Confluent Advanced Features

  • Natural language intent matching to discover the best action for a specific task.
  • Direct API proxy requests that automatically handle base URL mapping and authentication injection.
  • Support for headless environment authentication via manual code completion.
  • Built-in pagination and error handling for large Kafka cluster configurations.
  • Multi-tenant support allowing agents to switch between different Confluent environments seamlessly.
