What is Cricket Live?

The Cricket Live skill empowers your AI agent with real-time sports data integration. By leveraging the CricketData.org API, this skill allows users to query live scores, upcoming schedules, and detailed match statistics through simple natural language or CLI commands. It is designed to be a lightweight yet powerful addition to Openclaw Skills, ensuring fans never miss a wicket.

This skill is built for performance and efficiency, utilizing a robust caching layer to respect API rate limits while providing the most current information. Whether you are tracking a high-stakes International Test or following the latest IPL season, this tool brings the stadium experience directly to your agent interface.

Cricket Live Use Cases

  • Monitoring live international and domestic cricket matches in real-time.
  • Tracking daily IPL standings, upcoming fixtures, and recent results.
  • Setting up automated cron alerts for wickets, centuries, or match results during active play.
  • Searching for specific match details and scorecards using team aliases like MI, CSK, or IND.
  • Integrating live sports data into broader Openclaw Skills workflows for personalized sports briefing.

How Cricket Live Works

  1. The user or agent triggers a specific bash script (e.g., live-scores.sh) to request current cricket data.
  2. The script checks the local cache in /tmp/cricket-cache to minimize external API calls and optimize performance within Openclaw Skills.
  3. If the cache is expired or missing, the skill sends an authenticated request to the CricketData.org API.
  4. The raw JSON response is processed using jq to filter and format the data into messaging-friendly, emoji-rich text.
  5. For automated alerts, the script compares the current match state against a stored state file to detect and notify the user of new events like wickets or centuries.

Cricket Live Setup

1. API Key Registration

Obtain a free API key at cricketdata.org. This key is essential for accessing the data required by Openclaw Skills.

2. Environment Configuration

Set your API key as an environment variable to ensure secure access without hardcoding credentials:

export CRICKET_API_KEY="your-api-key-here"
# Add this to your ~/.bashrc or ~/.openclaw/.env for persistence

3. Install Dependencies

Ensure you have jq installed on your system for parsing API responses:

sudo apt install jq # Ubuntu/Debian
brew install jq # macOS

4. Basic Usage

Run a test script to confirm everything is working:

bash scripts/live-scores.sh

Cricket Live Data Schema & Taxonomy

The skill organizes its operations through configuration files and temporary state storage to maintain efficiency:

Component Description
config/cricket.yaml Main configuration for API keys, favorite teams, and endpoint-specific cache TTL settings.
config/teams.yaml Alias mapping for team names, allowing shorthand like "CSK" to map to "Chennai Super Kings".
/tmp/cricket-cache/ Directory for local JSON caching to protect your API quota.
/tmp/cricket-alert-state.json Persistent state file used to track match milestones for the alert system.

Cricket Live Advanced Features

  • Automated Cron Integration: Schedule periodic checks for notable match events (wickets, centuries) to receive proactive notifications.
  • Smart Quota Management: Configurable TTL (Time-To-Live) per endpoint ensures you stay within the 100 calls/day free tier of Openclaw Skills compatible APIs.
  • Fuzzy Team Matching: Built-in support for team aliases and shorthand, making search queries more intuitive and faster.
  • Messaging-Optimized Output: All data is formatted for readability in chat interfaces like Discord or Telegram, avoiding heavy markdown tables.
