What is Ctxkeeper?

Ctxkeeper serves as a robust operational journal designed for developers using Openclaw Skills. It allows for the precise tracking of context changes, system runs, and checks over time by recording timestamped entries into dedicated log files. This ensures that every action taken by an AI agent—from code generation to data analysis—is archived for future review.

By providing a structured way to manage conversation context and operational history, Ctxkeeper solves the problem of context drift and loss. It creates a reliable audit trail, making it an indispensable tool for teams who need to monitor long-term agent behaviors, troubleshoot issues, or export activity logs for stakeholder reporting.

Ctxkeeper Use Cases

  • Tracking granular context changes and system runs over extended development periods.
  • Maintaining a structured, timestamped journal of AI operational activities across distinct categories.
  • Performing historical audits to pinpoint exactly when specific analyses or checks were executed.
  • Exporting logged operational data to share progress and logs with teammates.
  • Monitoring overall system activity and data growth through centralized statistics.

How Ctxkeeper Works

  1. The user or agent invokes a specific command (like run, check, or analyze) with an input string describing the action.
  2. Ctxkeeper captures the input and appends it to a category-specific log file located in the local share directory.
  3. Each entry is automatically timestamped to ensure chronological accuracy and traceability.
  4. Users can query the entire log repository using search or statistics commands to retrieve historical data.
  5. The tool provides summary views via recent and stats commands to give an immediate overview of recent agent activity.

Ctxkeeper Setup

Ctxkeeper requires Bash 4 or higher. To begin using this within your Openclaw Skills environment, ensure the utility is executable in your path. Data is stored by default in ~/.local/share/ctxkeeper/.

Ctxkeeper Data Schema & Taxonomy

Ctxkeeper organizes data into category-specific log files with a central history file. The data is stored in the following structure:

File Type Description Location
Category Logs Individual logs for run, check, analyze, etc. ~/.local/share/ctxkeeper/*.log
History Log A master file containing the last 20 global actions. ~/.local/share/ctxkeeper/history.log
Metadata Entry counts and data sizes for stats reporting. Managed internally via log parsing

Each entry follows a standard format: [TIMESTAMP] [CATEGORY] [MESSAGE].

Ctxkeeper Advanced Features

  • Multi-category logging: Separate streams for run, check, convert, analyze, generate, preview, batch, compare, export, config, status, and report.
  • Global Search: Case-insensitive search across the entire log ecosystem to find specific terms quickly.
  • Summary Analytics: The stats command provides a high-level view of data size and entry counts across all categories.
  • Context Pruning: Use the log management tools to maintain clean environments by identifying and removing old session history.
  • Operational Export: Dedicated export command to facilitate the transfer of logged data into other formats or systems.
