What is Daily Greeting?

The Daily Greeting skill allows your AI agents to become proactive team members by initiating conversations at the start of the day. By leveraging Openclaw Skills, this tool sends tailored messages to bound channels in the user's preferred language, including relevant status updates based on the agent's specific role. Whether it is summarizing a todo list or checking in on ongoing projects, this skill ensures your agents stay engaged and helpful.

Built with reliability in mind, it features sophisticated state management to prevent duplicate messages and supports multiple platforms like Discord and Feishu. This skill is essential for developers looking to add a layer of human-like interaction and consistency to their agentic workflows.

Daily Greeting Use Cases

  • Automating a morning summary of tasks for a project management agent.
  • Sending personalized greetings to international teams in their native languages.
  • Providing daily status updates for diary or logging agents to keep users informed.
  • Ensuring agents remain visible and active in communication channels without manual user prompts.

How Daily Greeting Works

  1. The skill is triggered via the OpenClaw Gateway startup sequence (BOOT.md) or a scheduled cron job.
  2. It performs a state check against a local JSON file to ensure the greeting hasn't already been sent for the current day.
  3. The script verifies if the current day is a working day, filtering out weekends if the configuration is enabled.
  4. It iterates through available agents, excluding any specified in the configuration, and sends a trigger message.
  5. Each agent processes the request according to its persona, generates a greeting, and uses its messaging tool to post to the bound channel.
  6. The execution status and timestamp are recorded to maintain persistence and prevent safe repetition.

Daily Greeting Setup

To install the skill, clone it into your local directory and ensure the scripts are executable:

# Clone the skill
cp -r daily-greeting ~/.openclaw/skills/
# Make scripts executable
chmod +x ~/.openclaw/skills/daily-greeting/scripts/greeting.sh

To enable automated scheduling at 9 AM on weekdays, use the following Openclaw Skills command:

openclaw cron add \
  --name "daily-greeting" \
  --cron "0 9 * * 1-5" \
  --session isolated \
  --message "bash ~/.openclaw/skills/daily-greeting/scripts/greeting.sh run" \
  --wake now

Daily Greeting Data Schema & Taxonomy

The skill organizes its configuration and execution state using structured JSON files within its directory:

File Path Description Key Components
config.json Primary configuration workingDaysOnly, excludeAgents, triggerMessage
data/state.json Execution tracking lastRun (ISO timestamp), agents (completion status)
data/install.json Installation metadata Records BOOT.md paths for clean uninstallation
scripts/greeting.sh Core logic Handles execution, status checks, and resets

Daily Greeting Advanced Features

  • Dual trigger support allows the skill to function seamlessly during both system boot-up and scheduled intervals.
  • Manual state management commands enable developers to reset, check status, or trigger runs on demand for testing.
  • Context-aware greeting logic ensures agents use channel history and role-specific data to generate meaningful messages.
  • Integrated uninstallation logic automatically cleans up cron jobs and removes specific blocks from BOOT.md files within the Openclaw Skills ecosystem.
