What is Deckly Deck Redesign?

The Deckly Deck Redesign skill is a powerful automation capability designed for AI agents to easily transform rough, unstyled PowerPoint (.pptx) and PDF presentation slides into professional, on-brand decks. Operating entirely via a lightweight Python 3 script, this skill requires no external dependencies beyond the Python standard library, making it highly portable and execution-friendly for agents.

By leveraging the advanced layout and graphic generation abilities of the Deckly API, developers and AI agents can seamlessly analyze drafts, select custom styles or aesthetic themes, fine-tune individual slides, and output polished results. This skill is part of a library of Openclaw Skills built to extend developer agents with versatile, task-specific capabilities.

Deckly Deck Redesign Use Cases

  • Automatically restyle and beautify ugly or messy PowerPoint templates.
  • Convert plain PDF presentations into visually compelling, modern slide decks.
  • Streamline slide layout design for marketing, business, or developer advocacy presentations.
  • Run automated batch redesigns of internal team presentations using simple CLI commands.
  • Optimize developer agent workflows by delegating slide beautification tasks directly from an interactive chat interface.

How Deckly Deck Redesign Works

  1. Analyze the Deck: The script uploads the input PowerPoint or PDF to extract content, and returns a detailed slide list alongside layout recommendations.
  2. Choose the Aesthetic: The user or agent lists available styles and template themes, selecting a style preset (such as a text style, template theme, or a custom text-based instruction).
  3. Redesign Drafts: The agent initiates a redesign call. For new users, this can run as a free 3-slide preview before proceeding with a paid render.
  4. Fine-Tune Slides: Individual slides can be dynamically adjusted, updated with specific design prompts, or reverted to previous versions at no extra cost.
  5. Export & Download: Once finalized, the agent renders the full deck and downloads the completed presentation as a highly polished slide deck.

Deckly Deck Redesign Setup

The script runs natively on Python 3 using only the standard library. No pip installs are required.

Running Commands

Execute commands using the following CLI pattern:

python scripts/deckly.py <command> [args]

Authentication and Onboarding

The skill attempts to resolve credentials automatically via environment variables or a local configuration file in this order:

  1. DECKLY_TOKEN
  2. DECKLY_API_KEY
  3. Saved credentials file at ~/.deckly/credentials
  4. DECKLY_EMAIL + DECKLY_PASSWORD

If credentials are missing, the agent can guide the user through onboarding entirely within the chat console:

# Sign up for a new account
python scripts/deckly.py signup --email [email protected] --password <chosen_password>

# Verify via the 6-digit code received in email
python scripts/deckly.py verify --email [email protected] --code 123456

# Log in if an account already exists
python scripts/deckly.py login --email [email protected] --password <existing_password>

Deckly Deck Redesign Data Schema & Taxonomy

Project Metadata and State

When analyzing and processing slide decks, the API returns a structured JSON payload containing state details:

Property Type Description
project_id String Unique identifier for the redesign project
slides Array List of slides and metadata extracted from the input file
recommended_slide_indices Array List of slides recommended for prioritized preview rendering
free_preview_available Boolean Identifies if a free 3-slide preview can be generated
credit_balance Integer Remaining balance of user credits

Supported Slide Index Formatting

The --slides argument accepts flexible ranges and configurations:

  • Lists: 1,3,5
  • Ranges: 1-10
  • Mixed: 1-5,8

Local Configurations

Upon successful verification or login, user API keys are safely persisted locally at:

  • Path: ~/.deckly/credentials (with chmod 600 permissions)

Deckly Deck Redesign Advanced Features

  • One-Shot Mode: Fast-track presentations with a single CLI call using python scripts/deckly.py oneshot deck.pptx -o final.pptx to skip interactive prompts.
  • Interactive Fine-Tuning: Run targeted, iterative prompts on specific slides using custom prompts with finetune commands.
  • Version Control: List and switch between different generated design variants of individual slides using versions and select with zero additional credit costs.
  • Autonomous Chat Onboarding: Agents can fully sign up, verify, or log in users within the chat pipeline without opening an external browser window.
  • Asynchronous Polling: Integrated long-polling support with custom timeouts to manage complex, multi-slide design renders smoothly in background agent loops.
  • Modular Integration: Built specifically to align with advanced developer automation workflows within Openclaw Skills environments.
