What is Degreed?

The Degreed skill for Openclaw Skills enables AI agents to seamlessly interact with the Degreed learning experience platform. It empowers organizations to discover, track, and measure learning initiatives by providing a structured interface for managing content, paths, skills, and user data. This skill is designed to simplify the integration of professional development into automated workflows, ensuring that learning and development professionals can scale their programs through intelligent automation.

By utilizing the Membrane framework, this skill handles the heavy lifting of authentication and credential management. It allows developers to focus on the logical integration of learning data without worrying about the underlying API complexities or manual token refreshes. Whether you are building an automated onboarding system or a skills-gap analysis tool, this integration provides the technical foundation needed for robust learning management.

Degreed Use Cases

  • Automating the discovery and assignment of learning paths to specific employee groups.
  • Programmatically tracking and measuring workforce upskilling progress for data-driven reporting.
  • Synchronizing external skill databases with Degreed person records and competencies.
  • Managing learning item content and metadata through automated agents.
  • Building custom HR automation pipelines that trigger based on learning completion events.

How Degreed Works

  1. The AI agent utilizes the Membrane CLI to authenticate and establish a secure session with the Degreed platform.
  2. A connection is ensured by mapping the Degreed domain, which initiates the OAuth or API key handshake process.
  3. The system monitors the connection state, handling any required client actions such as manual user approval or input.
  4. Once the connection is ready, the agent searches for available actions using natural language intent to find the most efficient way to query or update data.
  5. Commands are executed via pre-built actions or direct proxy requests, with Membrane automatically injecting the necessary headers and handling pagination.

Degreed Setup

To begin using this skill within the Openclaw Skills framework, first install the Membrane CLI:

npm install -g @membranehq/cli@latest

Authenticate your agent environment:

membrane login --tenant --clientName=openclaw

Establish a connection to the Degreed instance:

membrane connection ensure \"https://degreed.com/\" --json

If the connection is in a BUILDING state, wait for it to become READY:

membrane connection get <id> --wait --json

Degreed Data Schema & Taxonomy

The Degreed skill organizes data around several primary entities within the learning ecosystem:

Entity Description
Learning Item Represents individual educational resources and content pieces.
Path A curated sequence of content designed to guide a user through a learning journey.
Skill Specific competencies and taxonomies used to measure proficiency.
Person Individual user profiles containing learning history and skill data.
Group Logical collections of users for targeted assignments and reporting.
Search Metadata and results from queries across the Degreed content library.

Degreed Advanced Features

  • Natural language intent discovery to automatically identify the correct action for a specific query.
  • Transparent credential management that eliminates the need to handle sensitive API keys locally.
  • Direct API proxy requests that support custom HTTP methods (GET, POST, PUT, DELETE) with automatic auth injection.
  • Machine-readable JSON output for all commands to facilitate multi-agent orchestration.
  • Built-in pagination and error handling within pre-defined actions to optimize token consumption for Openclaw Skills users.
