What is Librarian?

The Librarian is an essential skill for creators and researchers who need to transform a chaotic stream of information into a structured knowledge base. It serves as the primary entry point for Openclaw Skills by handling the heavy lifting of content ingestion. Whether you drop a YouTube URL, a tweet, or a PDF, the Librarian analyzes the source, extracts core themes, and files a standardized markdown note into your workspace.

This skill is designed to act as the shared brain for an ecosystem of agents. By capturing not just the content but the user's specific intent and the emotional register of the source material, it creates high-context prompts that downstream Openclaw Skills like the Screenwriter or Remixer can use to generate new, original content. It prioritizes the why behind every saved item, ensuring your library remains an actionable asset rather than a digital graveyard.

Librarian Use Cases

  • Saving viral tweets or long-form articles for deep reference and future citation.
  • Ingesting YouTube videos and podcasts to extract structural frameworks and key hooks.
  • Archiving PDFs and images with automated tagging and intent-based classification.
  • Preparing a research foundation for downstream creative agents to remix or rewrite.
  • Organizing a personal knowledge management system with consistent, date-based file naming.

How Librarian Works

  1. Content Detection: The agent identifies the source type (YouTube, Article, PDF, X/Tweet, etc.) to determine the best extraction strategy.
  2. Intent Clarification: If the context is missing, the agent asks a short targeted question to understand if you are saving for reference, analysis, or future remixing.
  3. Extraction & Analysis: The skill fetches the content to identify the core thesis, key ideas, and the specific emotional or structural 'arc' of the piece.
  4. Structured Filing: A markdown file is generated in the library folder using a standardized template and date-slug naming convention.
  5. Hand-off Confirmation: The agent confirms the file location and suggests which downstream Openclaw Skills can now use this data for content generation.

Librarian Setup

To enable the Librarian within your workspace, ensure your library directory is initialized:

mkdir -p library

Ensure you have the necessary environment variables configured for web fetching and API access (e.g., FxTwitter or PDF parsing tools) as defined in your Openclaw Skills configuration files. No additional software is needed if your base agent supports standard web and file tools.

Librarian Data Schema & Taxonomy

The Librarian organizes data using a strict taxonomy to ensure compatibility with other Openclaw Skills. All notes follow the format library/YYYY-MM-DD-[slug].md.

Field Description
Content-Type Category of the media (e.g., Video, PDF, Tweet)
Why I saved this The specific user motivation or inferred utility
Format / Structure Analysis of how the content is built (the 'arc')
Intent Classification for downstream triggers (remix, analyze, reference)
Tags Metadata based on topic, creator, and format

Librarian Advanced Features

  • Downstream Integration: Automatically prepares notes with metadata specifically formatted for Screenwriter and Remixer agents.
  • Automated Metadata Extraction: Uses FxTwitter and web-fetch tools to pull creator details and engagement hooks without manual input.
  • Intent-Driven Tagging: Dynamically assigns tags based on the user's stated goal for the content.
  • Emotional Register Mapping: Categorizes content by tone (e.g., motivational, analytical) to help find the right 'vibe' for future projects within Openclaw Skills.
